Cerebrospinal fluid findings in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder, Tourette syndrome, and PANDAS: A systematic literature review
CONCLUSIONS: This systematic review of available CSF data shows that too few studies are currently available for conclusions with good evidence. The existing data indicates glutamate alterations in OCD and possible immunological abnormalities in OCD and TS. More CSF studies avoiding sources of bias are needed.PMID:37748568 | DOI:10.1016/j.bbi.2023.09.016 (Source: Brain, Behavior, and Immunity)

A scoping review of oral language and social communication abilities in children with Tourette syndrome
CONCLUSIONS: Oral language and social communication skills are important for academic and social success. This review brings scattered literature together to provide up-to-date information about language in children with TS and highlights that there are considerable gaps in our knowledge about language and communication in this population. This scoping review can inform future research and support speech language pathologists in the assessment of young people with TS.WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS: What is already known on the subject Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) working in various contexts (e.g., schools, mental health teams...

Valbenazine promotes body growth via growth hormone signaling during zebrafish embryonic development
Toxicol Appl Pharmacol. 2023 Aug 28:116674. doi: 10.1016/j.taap.2023.116674. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT-2) functions by uptake of cytoplasmic monoamines into vesicles for storage. Valbenazine (VBZ) is a newly FDA-approved oral VMAT-2 inhibitor used for the treatment of movement disorders such as tardive dyskinesia (TD), and Tourette syndrome (TS). Clinical data shows that VBZ is a relatively safe drug with no cardiotoxicity or hepatotoxicity. However, the effect of VBZ on embryonic development remains unknown. Here, we use zebrafish larvae as an animal model to demonstrate that VB...

Efficacy and safety of aripiprazole in the treatment of delirium
Psychiatr Pol. 2023 Jun 1:1-10. doi: 10.12740/PP/OnlineFirst/156262. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDelirium is a psychosis with disorder of consciousness and it's caused by acute brain disfunction in the course of e.g. severe somatic condition, intoxication or withdrawal syndrome. Delirium management is based on the treatment of the state that caused disturbance in central nervous system. Severe delirium syndromes such as agitation, disorganized behavior or hallucinations require additional pharmacological treatment with antypsychotics. Aripiprazole is one of second generation antypsychotics (SGA), that is used in treatmen...
