The Severity and Neural Correlates of Premonitory Urge in Tourette Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Our meta-analysis confirmed the positive relationship between the severity of tics and PU and identified age as a significant factor influencing PU. The neural mechanisms underlying PU remain largely unknown, but evidence suggests that the insula, PFC, ACC, and SMA are related regions.PMID:38176915 | DOI:10.31083/j.jin2206159 (Source: Journal of Integrative Neuroscience)

Networkmodulation through deep brain stimulation
CONCLUSION: DBS is a safe technique with a proven effect on more than 200,000 patients with movement disorders. Trials into the application of DBS for the most important psychiatric and cognitive indications are important.PMID:38174396 (Source: Tijdschrift voor Psychiatrie)

Reframing stigma in Tourette syndrome: an updated scoping review
AbstractPersistent tic disorders (PTD) such as Tourette ’s syndrome (TS) are common childhood-onset neurodevelopmental disorders. Stigmatization of individuals with these disorders remains an ongoing problem. The purpose of this scoping review is to serve as an updated review of the research regarding stigmatization in youth with PTD since the publicat ion of the original systematic review about this topic in 2016. The electronic databases Embase, Web of Science, PubMed, PsycINFO, and CINAHL were searched. Of the 4751 initial articles screened after removing duplications, 47 studies met the inclusion criteria. The studie...

Deep brain stimulation for Tourette syndrome: modulation of the limbic-motor interface network
CONCLUSIONS: The authors demonstrated the involvement of the limbic-motor interface network during effective DBS for tics in patients with TS. OCB redution was associated with the additional involvement of dmPFC/dACC connections passing dorsal to the head of the globus pallidus pars externa on its way to the thalamus and midbrain.PMID:38157543 | DOI:10.3171/2023.10.JNS231317 (Source: Journal of Neurosurgery)
