Diagnostic Significance of DCE-MRI-Related Quantitative Parameters for Nasal Cavity and Sinus Tumors
CONCLUSION: DCE-MRI-related quantitative parameters are ideal for the diagnosis of benign and malignant nasal sinus tumors. This modality provides more data for the identification of the nature of the tumor, and thus merits clinical promotion and application.PMID:37971454 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)

Generating meaning: active inference and the scope and limits of passive AI

However, because they contend with the control of purposive, life-sustaining sensorimotor interactions, the generative models of living organisms are inextricably anchored to the body and world. Unlike the passive models learned by generative AI systems, they must capture and control the sensory co...

Clinical evaluation of premonitory urges in children and adolescents using the Chinese version of Individualized Premonitory Urge for Tics Scale
ConclusionThe C-IPUTS can be used to assess PUs reliably and effectively and provide further information for the C-PUTS from various dimensions in a Chinese setting. PUs relate to obsessive-compulsive symptoms, anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity, and behavioral problems in children and adolescents with TDs. Accordingly, PUs evaluation using the C-IPUTS combined with the PUTS might provide useful information for future therapies for TDs to achieve greater tic reduction. (Source: Frontiers in Psychiatry)

High density of CXCL12-positive immune cell infiltration predicts chemosensitivity and recurrence-free survival in ovarian carcinoma
CONCLUSION: A high density of CXCL12 + TICs predicts a good response to chemotherapy, leading to a better overall survival and a longer recurrence-free interval. Moreover, with concomitant high CXCL12/CD66b TIC density, it is an independent favorable predictor of recurrence-free survival in patients with ovarian carcinoma.PMID:37966614 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-05466-8 (Source: Cell Research)

Ethical reasoning versus empathic bias: a false dichotomy?
Trends Cogn Sci. 2023 Nov 13:S1364-6613(23)00264-4. doi: 10.1016/j.tics.2023.10.006. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDoes empathy necessarily impede equity in altruism? Emerging findings from cognitive and affective science suggest that rationality and empathy are mutually compatible, contradicting some earlier, prominent arguments that empathy impedes equitable giving. We propose alternative conceptualizations of relationships among empathy, rationality, and equity, drawing on interdisciplinary advances in altruism research.PMID:37968204 | DOI:10.1016/j.tics.2023.10.006 (Source: Trends Cogn Sci)
