Divergent roles of angiotensin II upon the immediate and sustained increases of renal blood flow following unilateral nephrectomy
Am J Physiol Renal Physiol. 2022 Feb 28. doi: 10.1152/ajprenal.00376.2021. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlthough the molecular and functional responses related to the renal compensatory hypertrophy after unilateral nephrectomy (UNX) has been well described, many aspects of these events remain unclear. One question is how the remaining kidney senses the absence of the contralateral organ and another what the role of the renin-angiotensin system is in these responses. Both acute anesthetized and chronic unanesthetized studies were performed using the AT1-receptor blocker losartan and the renin inhibitor aliskiren to determi...

Immunomodulatory properties of antihypertensive drugs and digitalis glycosides
Expert Rev Cardiovasc Ther. 2022 Feb 8. doi: 10.1080/14779072.2022.2039627. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: The role of chronic inflammatory process in the pathogenesis or exacerbation of hypertension has been already acknowledged.AREAS COVERED: Therefore, one can speculate that hypotensive drugs may exert some of their therapeutic effects due to immunomodulatory properties. So far, this assumption has been tested in different studies, and the resulting knowledge is summarized in the current review article that is dedicated to different groups of antihypertensives, namely calcium channel blockers, beta blockers...

Renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors prevent the onset of oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy: A retrospective multicenter study and in vitro evaluation
We examined the effects of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors (RAASIs) on OIPN by performing a retrospective multicenter study and an in vitro assay. We retrospectively evaluated electronic medical records of 976 patients who underwent one or more courses of OXA-containing regimens at Ehime, Okayama, and Tokushima University Hospitals. The primary endpoint was the incidence of OIPN during or after OXA administration. The effects of RAASIs and OXA on the neurite length in PC12 cells were determined. The combined administration of an OXA-containing regimen and RAASI significantly inhibited the cumulative inciden...

Development and external validation of prognostic models to predict sudden and pump-failure death in patients with HFrEF from PARADIGM-HF and ATMOSPHERE
ConclusionWe developed and validated models which separately predict SD and PFD in patients with HFrEF. These models may help clinicians and patients consider therapies targeted at these modes of death.Trial registration numberPARADIGM-HF: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT01035255, ATMOSPHERE: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT00853658.Graphics abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Model ‐based meta‐analysis of changes in circulatory system physiology in patients with chronic heart failure
AbstractTo characterize and compare various medicines for chronic heart failure (CHF), changes in circulatory physiological parameter during pharmacotherapy were investigated by a model-based meta-analysis (MBMA) of circulatory physiology. The clinical data from 61 studies mostly in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), reporting changes in heart rate, blood pressure, or ventricular volumes after treatment with carvedilol, metoprolol, bisoprolol, bucindolol, enalapril, aliskiren, or felodipine, were analyzed. Seven cardiac and vasculature function indices were estimated without invasive measur...
