MaNAC19-MaXB3 regulatory module mediates sucrose synthesis in banana fruit during ripening
This study's findings collectively illustrated the mechanistic basis of a MaXB3-MaNAC19-MaSPS1 regulatory module controlling sucrose synthesis during banana fruit ripening. These outcomes have broadened our understanding of the regulation mechanisms that contributed to sucrose metabolism occurring in transcriptional and post-transcriptional stages, which might help develop molecular approaches for controlling ripening and improving fruit quality.PMID:37802454 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.127144 (Source: International Journal of Biological Macromolecules)

Effects of front-of-package caffeine and sweetener disclaimers in Mexico: Cross-sectional results from the 2020 International Food Policy Study
CONCLUSIONS: There was high awareness and use of the sweeteners and caffeine disclaimers shortly after the warning labels were implemented. The sweetener disclaimer appears to be helping consumers modify their perceptions regarding industrialized beverages for children. Findings may help decision-makers improve the regulation and better target communication strategies.PMID:37781769 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980023002100 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

The non-nutritive sweetener sucralose increases β-arrestin signaling at the constitutively active orphan G protein-coupled receptor GPR52
Can J Physiol Pharmacol. 2023 Sep 25. doi: 10.1139/cjpp-2023-0199. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNon-nutritive sweeteners are popular food additives owing to their low caloric density and powerful sweetness relative to natural sugars. Their lack of metabolism contributes to evidence proclaiming their safety, yet several studies contravene this demonstrating that sweeteners activate sweet taste G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and elicit deleterious metabolic functions through unknown mechanisms. We hypothesize that activation of GPCRs, particularly orphan receptors due to their abundance in metabolically active tissues,...

Effect of glycerol concentration on levels of toxicants emissions from water-pipe tobacco smoking (WTS)
Glycerol, flavorings and sweeteners constitute approximately 70% of water-pipe tobacco smoking (WTS) mixtures. Tobacco mixture combustion produces smoke toxins (e.g. carbonyl compounds), of which the type and ... (Source: BMC Public Health)
