Spontaneous clearance of serum HCV-RNA after splenectomy in a patient with HCV-related liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension: a case report
CONCLUSIONS: We have presented a case of spontaneous clearance of HCV-RNA after splenectomy in a patient with cirrhosis and portal hypertension. Splenectomy may be associated with disappearance of HCV-RNA based on previous reports. More cases should be accumulated and evaluated.PMID:38647617 | DOI:10.1186/s40792-024-01899-6 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Impact of D2 Total Gastrectomy Including Splenectomy for Scirrhous Gastric Cancer in the Era of Effective Adjuvant Chemotherapy
ConclusionThe therapeutic value index was improved in almost all nodal stations by S-1 adjuvant chemotherapy, especially in D2 nodes. TGS would be more important for locally resectable SGC in the era of effective adjuvant chemotherapy. (Source: Journal of Gastrointestinal Cancer)

GSE263764 Effect of splenectomy on liver regeneration after 70% resection in a mouse model.
Contributor : Andrey ElchaninovSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Mus musculusIn this work, the effect of splenectomy on liver regeneration was studied. For this purpose in 1 series of experiments the animals were reproduced splenectomy, and after 7 days 70% liver resection was performed. It was found that spleen removal leads to a decrease in the migration of Ly6C+ monocytes into the regenerating liver. Using transcriptional analysis it was shown that spleen and peripheral blood monocytes differ in the expression of genes associated with the synthesis of surface receptors necessary...

Efficacy of radiofrequency ablation combined with sorafenib for treating liver cancer complicated with portal hypertension and prognostic factors
CONCLUSION: Patients suffering from liver cancer complicated by portal hypertension benefit from the combination of RFA and sorafenib therapy because it effectively restores liver function and increases survival rates. The prognosis of patients suffering from liver cancer complicated by portal hypertension is strongly associated with factors such as high Child-Pugh grade, tumor size (6-10 cm), history of hepatitis, lack of sorafenib use, liver cancer at stage IIIC, and prior splenectomy.PMID:38617449 | PMC:PMC11008421 | DOI:10.3748/wjg.v30.i11.1533 (Source: World Journal of Gastroenterology)

Primary splenic angiosarcoma: a case series of a rare oncological entity and diagnostic challenge
Acta Oncol. 2024 Apr 15;63:192-197. doi: 10.2340/1651-226X.2023.35412.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Primary angiosarcoma of the spleen (PAS), an exceptionally rare and aggressive neoplasm with high metastatic risk (70%-85%), is frequently diagnosed in an advanced or metastatic stage. It presents diagnostic challenges due to its nonspecific symptomatology and resemblance to benign vascular lesions in various imaging modalities.PATIENTS AND METHODS: This case series aims to clarify the diagnostic difficulties by comparing imaging characteristics (CT-scan, MRI, and [18F]FDG-PET/CT) as well as pathological findings of three ...
