Language Dependency of /s/ Production: Native Dutch Versus Non-Native English
Lang Speech. 2024 Apr 20:238309241242114. doi: 10.1177/00238309241242114. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWith forensic recordings being collected in multiple languages increasingly often, this study investigates the language dependency of the voiceless alveolar fricative /s/ in speakers of native (L1) Dutch and non-native (L2) English. Due to phonetic similarity between the languages, Dutch learners of English may exhibit language-independent /s/ acoustics, making it an interesting feature for multilingual forensic speaker comparisons (FSCs). However, the findings show that out of the four spectral moments, center of gravit...

Facilitators, barriers, and strategies of communication in Malaysian school-age children with non-syndromic cleft lip and palate: Results of in-depth online qualitative interviews
This study explores the perceptions of facilitators, barriers to communication and strategies in Malaysian school-aged children with non-syndromic cleft lip and palate (CL/P), parents, and teachers. Fourteen children with non-syndromic CL/P aged 7 to 12 years, their parents (n = 16), and their teachers (n = 10) were recruited via purposive sampling. Participants were selected based on resilience scores (RS-10; (Wagnild, 2015) distinguishing low (<34) from high resilience (35-40) (Wagnild, 2015). Individual in-depth interviews were conducted online and evaluated qualitatively. The analyses were conducted utilising the gu...

Contextualized, Multicomponent Language Instruction: From Theory to Randomized Controlled Trial
CONCLUSIONS: There is growing support for the use of multicomponent CLIs to bring about educationally relevant outcomes for students with LLDs. The authors present this review of how SKILL was designed, manualized, and rigorously tested by a team of researchers and practitioners with the hope that this approach will serve as a springboard for the development of future multicomponent CLIs that may meaningfully improve communicative and educational outcomes for students with LLDs.PMID:38640078 | DOI:10.1044/2024_LSHSS-23-00171 (Source: Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools)

Self-Reported Home Program Adherence by People With Aphasia: Exploring Construct Validity
CONCLUSION: These results suggest that some people with aphasia can use logbooks with aphasia-friendly modifications to accurately estimate the amount of practice completed outside of therapy sessions.PMID:38640071 | DOI:10.1044/2024_AJSLP-23-00206 (Source: American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology)
