OT vs SLP
Hi, I'm posting this in both the OT and SLP forums for feedback: Can anyone give me some insight into the pros and cons of OT vs Speech (financial especially)? Background: I’m a pre-OT student but feeling very lost. My college doesn’t really have any other students pursuing OT and my professors don’t know much about it so I am kind of muddling through it without much guidance. When I first looked up OT in NY, I saw salaries that were around $90k. Now a few years later, I’m seeing OTs... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Adversity/Challenge Essay Topics
I don't want to hop onto anyone else's thread and steal their thunder, but I was hoping to get some advice on possible challenge/adversity essay topics: Stuttering - Throughout my childhood and high school, I had a stutter which I went to a speech therapist for. I struggled, and still struggle, with certain words and phrases. I was shy and quiet for years in my childhood since I was afraid to speak up, and while my stutter is significantly less noticeable, now, from time to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Sciencey classes without BCPM prefixes
Question: I took a class called Anatomy & Physiology of Speech and Hearing as a Speech-Language Pathology prereq in case I don't get into medical school. It was all biology. However, the catalog code was Communicative Disorders 385. Can this count as BCPM based on content? Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Caregiving as clinical experience?
Out of curiosity...wondering if caregiving could count as clinical experience. It involved caring for a direct family member who suffered a med emergency (which ultimately led to him being disabled). I assisted with his daily needs throughout his recovery. Observed and assisted with patient interactions between him and various healthcare workers (Physical therapist, speech therapist, nurses, PCP, other docs, social worker, etc) as he was transferred from the ICU to clinic 1, clinic 2, and... Learning about what therapists do
I'd like to better understand the specifics of what the PTs, OTs and Speech Therapists are actually doing with my patients both on the inpatient and outpatient side. I feel like this is a critical element of being a physiatrist, but I'm not really seeing where I will learn this in residency. When I make a prescription for therapy, I should be able to say more than 'eval and treat'. It is often suggested to go watch therapy session to learn about what the therapists are doing, and while... Learning about what therapists do (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What Scheduling/Billing/Practice Management Software Do You Use?
We are in the beginning process of looking for a new Practice Management Software. We are a multi-site program, with 1/2 dozen or so clinicians (psychologists and speech therapists) with a primary focus on neurodevelopmental/psychological evaluations (little-to-know psychotherapy services; some speech treatment). We need a system for scheduling, billing, and tracking employee time and productivity, with EHR capabilities. Our current system is just OK- It was designed primarily for...
