Reporting FinCEN ’s Suspicious Activity
Nicholas AnthonyFinCEN, or the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, will be appearing before Congress in an oversight hearing onApril 28th. Typically, these hearings serve as a  time for elected officials to publicly question regulators about their conduct, their regulatory agency, and the economy at large. Although the questioning will likely focus on thesanctions on Russia and the rise of cryptocurrencies, representatives should be firm in their questioning over why FinCEN does not publicly provide evidence of its purported effectiveness.Currently, the public has no way of verifying how successful FinCEN ––and the ...

Multi-Purpose Sensor for Rapid, Accurate COVID-19 Testing
Researchers at Johns Hopkins University developed a COVID-19 testing technology that is based on surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) coupled with machine learning. The technique does not require sample preparation or special training and can deliver results in as little as 25 minutes, with an accuracy that is comparable to that of PCR, the current gold standard. Interestingly, the sensor material can be deployed in a standard chip format for personalized testing, but it can also be applied to frequently touched surfaces, such as door handles, or even as a wearable, to monitor environmental and personal viral exposur...

Before taking Paxlovid, consider these drug interactions
FDA and Health Canada recently approved Paxlovid as an oral treatment option for mild-to-moderate COVID-19 who are at high risk of progression to severe COVID-19. It is a combination drug containing nirmatrelvir/ritonavir. Nirmatrelvir works by binding to SARS-CoV-2 3CL protease to ultimately stop viral replication. Ritonavir does not have any antiviral activity against COVID-19 butRead more …Before taking Paxlovid, consider these drug interactions originally appeared inKevinMD.com. An Example of a Very Targeted, Narrow Improvement of Immune Function in Aged Individuals
There are many potential approaches to interfere in the sweeping age-related chances to immune function. Of these, many stem from epigenetic changes characteristic of age, causing dysregulation via too much or too little production of a given protein, rather than more structural issues relating to reduced production of immune cells and increasing wear and tear of populations of immune cells lacking reinforcements. In this arena, a more efficient small molecule drug discovery process can allow for incremental improvement in immune function, assuming one can find a single point of intervention that has a high yield outcome i...
