Diindolylmethane Ameliorates Ischemic Stroke-Induced Brain Injury by Peripheral and Central Mechanisms
CONCLUSION: This inhibition of platelet aggregation, platelet mediated oxidative stress, and inflammation, improved blood flow, and reduced neurological deficits, brain infarction, BBB leakage, brain water content, and histopathological abnormalities indicate the preservation of brain structural integrity. Therefore, these findings conclude that DIM exhibits neuroprotection by inhibiting platelet aggregation. Thus, the present study provided preclinical evidence of DIM neuroprotection against ischemic stroke.PMID:36397630 | DOI:10.2174/1567202620666221116161128

Stroke-like presentation of autoimmune chorea with positive anti-Yo and anti-MOG antibodies: a case report
AbstractWith the in-depth study of autoimmune encephalitis, more and more antibody combinations and clinical manifestations appear in our sights, enriching the spectrum of autoimmune encephalitis. Here, we report a case of a 58-year-old male patient with sudden involuntary movement of the left limb. The brain MRI was normal. CSF analysis showed slightly elevated protein (548.38  mg/L) and normal cell count(1.00 10^6/L). No tumors were detected by the whole-body PET-CT. Positive anti-Yo and anti-MOG antibodies were found in the blood. So we considered the diagnosis of autoimmune chorea with positive anti-Yo and anti-MOG a...

Case report: Cryptogenic giant brain abscess caused by Providencia rettgeri mimicking stroke and tumor in a patient with impaired immunity
We present the case of a cryptogenic Providencia rettgeri brain abscess and analyze the clinical manifestations, imaging findings, treatment, and outcome to improve the level of awareness, aid in accurate diagnosis, and highlight effective clinical management. A 39-year-old man was admitted to the hospital after experiencing acute speech and consciousness disorder for 1 day. The patient had a medical history of nephrotic syndrome and membranous nephropathy requiring immunosuppressant therapy. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed giant, space-occupying lesions involving the brain stem, basal ganglia, and temporal-parietal lo...

Case report: Acute vestibular syndrome and cerebellitis in anti-Yo paraneoplastic syndrome
We report three patients evaluated over the past decade with an acute AVS along with subtle downbeat nystagmus (DBN), followed by dysarthria and progressive truncal and limb ataxia, as well as increasing DBN intensity.MethodsAll patients underwent neurologic examination, video-oculography, MRI, serum cancer markers, spinal fluid examination, paraneoplastic panel testing, and oncologic workup. With a consolidated diagnosis of cancer/paraneoplastic syndrome, we treated with plasma exchange (PLEX), high-dose steroids, surgery, and oncologic investigation. We additionally provided oncotherapy in one out of three patients.Resul...

Inflammation and Severe Cerebral Venous Thrombosis
This study reviews the current literature regarding the involvement of inflammation in the pathophysiology and anti-inflammatory interventions of severe CVT, which would contribute to informing the pathophysiology mechanism and laying a foundation for exploring novel severe CVT therapeutic strategies.

Emotional facial palsy: an unusual and rarely explored neurological sign
AbstractThe anatomy of the cortico-bulbar tract that drives voluntary movements of mimic muscles is well described. Some cases of facial palsy with inverse automatic-voluntary dissociation (emotional facial palsy; EFP) are reported in the literature. These cases suggested a completely independent path of the fibers whose lesion results in EFP. We aimed to review the clinical reports of EFP available in the literature to characterize the anatomical aspect of the fibers whose lesion results in the isolated impairment of spontaneous smiling. Cortico-pontine fibers that control spontaneous smiling arise from the medial surface...

Drug-resistant epilepsy at the age extremes: Disentangling the underlying etiology
Epilepsy Behav. 2022 May 25;132:108739. doi: 10.1016/j.yebeh.2022.108739. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe incidence of epilepsy is highest at the extreme age ranges: childhood and elderly age. The most common syndromes in these demographics - self-limited epilepsies of childhood and idiopathic generalized epilepsies in pediatric age, focal epilepsy with structural etiology in older people - are expected to be drug responsive. In this work, we focus on such epilepsy types, overviewing the complex clinical background of unexpected drug-resistance. For self-limited epilepsies of childhood and idiopathic generalized epilepsi...
