Alterations in Muscle Networks in the Upper Extremity of Chronic Stroke Survivors
This study represents the first effort, to the best of our knowledge, to assess stroke-linked alterations in functional intermuscular connectivity using muscle network analysis. The findings revealed a pattern of alterations to muscle networks in stroke survivors compared to healthy controls, as a result of the loss of brain function associated with the stroke. These alterations in muscle networks reflected underlying pathophysiology. Home-based portable fNIRS-derived cortical laterality correlates with impairment and function in chronic stroke
DiscussionThese results indicate it is feasible to gain M1-LAT measures from stroke survivors in their homes using fNIRS. These findings represent a preliminary step toward the goals of using ergonomic functional neuroimaging to improve post-stroke rehabilitative care, via the capture of neural biomarkers of post-stroke motor recovery, and/or via use as part of an accessible rehabilitation brain-computer-interface.

Early stimulation treatment provides complete sensory‐induced protection from ischemic stroke under isoflurane anesthesia
This study demonstrated that the isoflurane‐anesthetised rat pMCAO model can be used for cerebrovascular studies, and allows for highly detailed investigation of potential novel treatments for ischemic stroke using awake, behaving animals. Using a rat model of ischemia (permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion; pMCAO) we demonstrate that whisker stimulation can completely protect the cortex from impending stroke. Positive impact of pre-stroke surgery on survival following transient focal ischemia in hypertensive rats
We describe a positive influence of pre-stroke surgery on recovery and survival in a commonly used experimental stroke model. Two groups of male, stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRSPs) underwent transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO). Group 1 underwent the procedure without any prior intervention whilst group 2 had an additional general anaesthetic 6 days prior to tMCAO for a cranial burrhole and durotomy. Patient Perspectives of Barriers and Facilitators of Treatment-Seeking Behaviors for Stroke Care
Conclusions: Individuals who experience strokes face a number of facilitators and barriers to seeking urgent care for their condition. Facilitators and barriers are associated with stroke symptoms and their personal environments. Additional study of barriers to stroke care is needed to adequately design interventions to reduce delays in seeking treatment.
