Abnormal uterine artery remodelling in the stroke prone spontaneously hypertensive rat
The stroke prone spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHRSP) is an established model of human cardiovascular risk. We sought to characterise the uteroplacental vascular response to pregnancy in this model and determine whether this is affected by the pre-existing maternal hypertension.

Acute Occlusion of the Percheron Artery during Pregnancy: A Case Report and a Review of the Literature
The Percheron artery (PA) is a rare variant vessel. Its acute occlusion can cause a bilateral symmetrical thalamic stroke, clinically manifested as a sudden alteration of consciousness that could vary from sleepiness to coma. In this paper, we illustrate a case of acute PA occlusion in a young, pregnant woman and present a review of the literature, focusing on the possible causes of the acute occlusion.

Pregnancy After 40 May Boost Risk of 'Bleeding' Stroke Later: Study
WEDNESDAY, Feb. 17, 2016 -- Women who become pregnant at age 40 or older may face a greater risk of a "bleeding" stroke later in life, new research suggests. "Women who have a pregnancy after the age of 40 appear to have a higher chance, 15 or 20...

Safety of Pregnancy After Cerebral Venous Thrombosis: A Systematic Review Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— In women with previous CVT, the absolute risk of pregnancy-related venous thrombosis is low but the relative risk of noncerebral VTE is 16-fold higher and the recurrence of CVT is 80-fold higher than the baseline risk described in general population studies. The rate of miscarriage is not significantly different from that estimated for the general population.

Pregnancy loss and risk of ischaemic stroke and myocardial infarction
We investigated whether pregnancy loss increases the risk of arterial thrombosis in young women. Women (age 18–50 years) with ischaemic stroke (IS) or myocardial infarction (MI) and at least one pregnancy were compared for pregnancy loss in a control group. Odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI), adjusted for matching variables, cardiovascular risk factors, cardiovascular family history and the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies, were calculated for the number of pregnancy losses as well as the type of unsuccessful pregnancy (early miscarriage, late miscarriage and stillbirth). 165 IS cases, 218 MI cas...

Hypertension in pregnancy and risk of coronary heart disease and stroke: a prospective study in a large UK cohort
We examined the prospective relation between a history of hypertension during pregnancy and coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke in middle-aged UK women. Methods: In 1996 –2001, 1.1 million parous women (mean age=56years) without vascular disease at baseline reported their history of hypertension during pregnancy and other factors.

Ceftriaxone pretreatment reduces the propensity of postpartum depression following stroke during pregnancy in rats
Conclusions Taken together, our results suggested that ceftriaxone pretreatment before brain ischemia during pregnancy may reduce the propensity for the development of PPD by preventing the loss of GLT-1 expression in the mPFC.

20 Defective placental bed vascular remodeling precedes manifestations of superimposed preeclampsia in stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats
Conclusion Our data confirms the characterization of pregnant SHRSP as a model reproducing clinical diagnostic traits and the underlying placental pathology observed in preeclampsia superimposed on chronic hypertension. This novel model provides an attractive system for interventional studies and dissection of the multifactorial origins of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

Role of Tumor Necrosis Factor-{alpha} and Natural Killer Cells in Uterine Artery Function and Pregnancy Outcome in the Stroke-Prone Spontaneously Hypertensive RatNovelty and Significance Pregnancy and Hypertension
Women with chronic hypertension are at increased risk of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. We have previously characterized the stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHRSP) as a model of deficient uterine artery function and adverse pregnancy outcome compared with the control Wistar–Kyoto. The activation of the immune system plays a role in hypertension and adverse pregnancy outcome. Therefore, we investigated the role of tumor necrosis factor-α in the SHRSP phenotype in an intervention study using etanercept (0.8 mg/kg SC) at gestational days 0, 6, 12, and 18 in pregnant SHRSP compared with vehicle-tre...
