Risk Stratification Tool for Ischemic Stroke: A Risk Assessment Model Based on Traditional Risk Factors Combined With White Matter Lesions and Retinal Vascular Caliber
Conclusion: The risk assessment model of ischemic stroke combined with Fazekas grade of WML and CRAE is superior to the traditional risk factor and the single-index model. This model is helpful for risk stratification of high-risk stroke patients.

Network pharmacology-based prediction of the active compounds and mechanism of Buyang Huanwu Decoction for ischemic stroke
Exp Ther Med. 2021 Oct;22(4):1050. doi: 10.3892/etm.2021.10484. Epub 2021 Jul 23.ABSTRACTBuyang Huanwu Decoction (BYHWD) is used to promote blood circulation and is widely used in Chinese clinical practice for the treatment and prevention of ischemic cerebral vascular diseases. However, the mechanism and active compounds of BYHWD used to treat ischemic stroke are not well understood. The current study aimed to identify the potential active components of BYHWD and explore its mechanism using network pharmacology and bioinformatics analyses. The compounds of BYHWD were obtained from public databases. Oral bioavailability and...

Serum sortilin as a predictor of stroke in patients with intermediate carotid artery stenosis
CONCLUSIONS: Serum sortilin level is increased in the presence of symptomatic intermediate CAS and may have clinical value in the management of patients with carotid artery disease.PMID:35403511 | DOI:10.1177/17085381211067051

Artificial intelligence-enabled retinal vasculometry for prediction of circulatory mortality, myocardial infarction and stroke
CONCLUSION: RV offers an alternative predictive biomarker to traditional risk-scores for vascular health, without the need for blood sampling or blood pressure measurement. Further work is needed to examine RV in population screening to triage individuals at high-risk.PMID:36195457 | DOI:10.1136/bjo-2022-321842

Retinal Microvascular Changes in Subtypes of Ischemic Stroke
Conclusion: Retinal MVD0.5−1.0DD (>82.23 μm) might be associated with the AT stroke subtype; however, we need large-scale prospective studies in future to explore the underlying mechanism and causal explanation for this finding.

EP61 Direct carotid puncture for mechanical thrombectomy in acute ischaemic stroke: a single centre experience and review of the literature
ConclusionDirect carotid puncture is an effective and generally safe approach for EVT, with major access-site related complications seen in <5% of the cases. It should be considered as a bailout technique or primary access approach in selected cases.ReferencesAkpinar CK, et al. Acute ischemic stroke in young women secondary to atherosclerosis: a unique ophthalmic presentation with central retinal artery occlusion: a case report
We report a rare case of a young 33-year-old woman who presented an atypical ischemic stroke revealed by a unilateral CRAO. This case reports a rare condition affecting a young patient, and highlights the interest of ophthalmologic examination in the diagnostic of a neuro disease and the early management of ischemic stroke.PMID:35655682 | PMC:PMC9120742 | DOI:10.11604/pamj.2022.41.189.33147

The Discriminative Efficacy of Retinal Characteristics on Two Traditional Chinese Syndromes in Association with Ischemic Stroke.
Authors: Zhuo YY, Wu JM, Kuang L, Qu YM, Zee B, Lee J, Yang ZX Abstract We aimed to investigate the efficacy of an objective method using AI-based retinal characteristic analysis to automatically differentiate between two traditional Chinese syndromes that are associated with ischemic stroke. Inpatient clinical and retinal data were retrospectively retrieved from the archive of our hospital. Patients diagnosed with cerebral infarction in the department of acupuncture and moxibustion between 2014 and 2018 were examined. Of these, the patients with Qi deficiency blood stasis syndrome (QDBS) and phlegm stasis in chann...

Retinal artery occlusion and risk of stroke
We read with interest the article of Laczynski et  al1 titled “Retinal artery occlusion does not portend an increased risk of stroke.” This retrospective study including 221 cases of ischemic retinal artery occlusion (RAO) showed an incidence of stroke of 2.3%. The authors concluded with the following statement: “The risk of stroke subsequen t to a confirmed episode of symptomatic RAO is very low.”1

Estimation of stroke severity with National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale grading and retinal features: A cross-sectional study
To estimate National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) grading of stroke patients with retinal characteristics. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Shenzhen Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. Baseline information and retinal photos were collected within 2 weeks of admission. An NIHSS score was measured for each patient by trained doctors. Patients were classified into 0 to 4 score group and 5 to 42 score group for analysis. Three multivariate logistic models, with traditional clinical characteristics alone, with retinal characteristics alone, and with both, were built. For clinical characteristics, h...
