Identification of Risk Factors for Stroke in China: A Meta-Analysis of Prospective Cohort Studies
This study aimed to identify independent risk factors for first occurrence of stroke in Chinese individuals based on prospective cohort studies. Forty prospective cohort studies assessing 1,984,552 individuals were selected for the final meta-analysis. Aphasia affects approximately one third of all stroke patients and may lead to chronic disability. Effective neurorehabilitation programs focusing on improving speech and language in patients with post-stroke aphasia are essential. Intracranial large artery stenosis (ICAS) is one of the most common causes of stroke worldwide.1 Among stroke-free community-dwelling adults, ICAS is prevalent, associated with modifiable vascular risk factors, and confers risk of incident vascular events.2 Given prior work linking a Mediterranean-style diet (MeDi), which is rich in fruits, vegetables, fish, whole grains, legumes, and nuts, to reduced risk of vascular conditions and cardiovascular events,3,4 we hypothesized MeDi may also be protective against ICAS.
