Echocardiographic Assessment of Cardiac Structural and Functional Abnormalities in Patients With End-Stage Renal Disease Receiving Chronic Hemodialysis.
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with ESRD on chronic HD have a high prevalence of cardiac structural and functional abnormalities including calcified aortic sclerosis. High age and PTH were associated with aortic valve narrowing in these patients. PMID: 29093429 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Diastolic Dysfunction Is a Risk of Perioperative Myocardial Injury Assessed by High-Sensitivity Cardiac Troponin T in Elderly Patients Undergoing Non-Cardiac Surgery.
CONCLUSIONS: PMI is frequently observed in elderly patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery. Diastolic dysfunction is an independent predictor of PMI. PMID: 29151453 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Survival of HeartMate II Patients Despite Cessation of Anticoagulation - Outcomes and Hemostatic Analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: We experienced good results with AT cessation in specific HMII patients. The simultaneous onset of AvWS and high TAT values could explain at least in part the low thromboembolic rate in HMII patients without VKA. PMID: 29237991 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) for Native Aortic Valve Regurgitation - A Systematic Review.
CONCLUSIONS: TAVI demonstrates acceptable safety and efficacy in high-risk patients with severe NAVR. Second-generation valves may afford a similar safety profile with improved device success. Dedicated studies are needed to definitively establish the efficacy of TAVI in this population. PMID: 29311499 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Neuroprotection Mediated by Upregulation of Endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase in Rho-Associated, Coiled-Coil-Containing Kinase 2 Deficient Mice.
CONCLUSIONS: These findings indicate that the phosphorylation of eEF1A1 by ROCK2 is physiologically important for eNOS expression and NO-mediated neuroprotection, and suggest that targeting endothelial ROCK2 and eEF1A may have therapeutic benefits in ischemic stroke and cardiovascular disease. Contiguity Between Ablation Lesions and Strict Catheter Stability Settings Assessed by VISITAGTM Module Improve Clinical Outcomes of Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation Ablation - Results From the VISITALY Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Paroxysmal AF ablation with contact force technology and strict criteria of stability using the VISITAG module was a safe procedure, associated with an improvement in efficiency and a reduction of atrial tachyarrhythmia recurrence at the 12-month follow-up compared with manual annotation. Contiguity between lesions seemed to enhance effectiveness outcomes. PMID: 29415917 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
