Bridging Therapy With Heparin Before Starting Rivaroxaban in Ischemic Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack With Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation
CONCLUSIONS: The composite of ischemic events and major bleeding was more frequent in patients with NVAF who received bridging therapy with low-dose heparin than in those who started treatment directly with rivaroxaban after ischemic stroke or TIA.PMID:34789635 | DOI:10.1253/circj.CJ-21-0617

Clinical Significance of Peripheral Endothelial Function for Left Atrial Blood Stagnation in Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation Patients With Low-to-Intermediate Stroke Risk.
CONCLUSIONS: Impaired endothelial function assessed by RH-PAT might help to predict the presence of SEC in patients with low-to-intermediate risk of stroke. PMID: 27593228 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Working Hours and Risk of Acute Myocardial Infarction and Stroke Among Middle-Aged Japanese Men - The Japan Public Health Center-Based Prospective Study Cohort II.
CONCLUSIONS: Among middle-aged Japanese men, working overtime is associated with a higher risk of acute myocardial infarction. PMID: 30842356 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Early Administration of Non-Vitamin K Antagonist Oral Anticoagulants for Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients With Atrial Fibrillation in Comparison With Warfarin Mostly Combined With Heparin.
Conclusions:This study suggests that NOACs are suitable for AIS patients with Af, perhaps even better than warfarin, given their simplicity. PMID: 25736910 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Prognostic Significance of Blood Urea Nitrogen in Acute Ischemic Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: Increased BUN at admission is a significant prognostic factor associated with in-hospital mortality in AIS patients, but not with poor discharge outcome. PMID: 28904257 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Fibrin Clot Architecture in Acute Ischemic Stroke Treated With Mechanical Thrombectomy With Stent-Retrievers - Cohort Study.
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with large artery IS treated with the MT using stent-retrievers, bridging therapy with IVT preceding MT and higher platelet count were associated with significant changes of the histological structure of blood clots. PMID: 29176266 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

High Cardiac Troponin I Is Associated With Transesophageal Echocardiographic Risk of Thromboembolism and Ischemic Stroke Events in Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation Patients.
CONCLUSIONS: Elevated hs-cTnI was independently associated with LA abnormality in NVAF patients. hs-cTnI level may be a useful biomarker for risk stratification of thromboembolism in NVAF patients. PMID: 29607894 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Resting Heart Rate and In-Hospital Mortality in Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients With and Without Atrial Fibrillation.
CONCLUSIONS: Higher RHR at admission was independently associated with in-hospital mortality in AIS patients without AF. PMID: 32115469 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Seasonal Variations in the Incidence of Ischemic Stroke, Extracranial and Intracranial Hemorrhage in Atrial Fibrillation Patients.
CONCLUSIONS: Significant seasonal variations were observed for IS, ECH, and ICH events in AF patients, and were consistently the highest in winter. A small peak of ECH was observed in summer, which seemed, in part, to be related to increased DOAC use. PMID: 32863288 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Discrepancy of Aortic Valve Area Measurements by Doppler vs. Biplane Stroke Volume Measurements and Utility of Combining the Different Areas in Aortic Valve Stenosis - The Asian Valve Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: Discrepancy in AVAI by Doppler vs. biplane method was significantly more pronounced with increased LV outflow tract flow velocity, shorter height, lower weight, older age and smaller LV cavity dimensions. Combining the AVAIs enabled mutual and incremental value in predicting events. PMID: 33208592 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
