Epidemiology of Acute Aortic Dissection in a General Population of 1.4 Million People in Japan - Shiga Stroke and Heart Attack Registry
CONCLUSIONS: Population-based incidence rates of AAD in Japan appear to be higher than in previous reports from Western countries. Incident cases with type A-AAD were older and female predominance.PMID:37211402 | DOI:10.1253/circj.CJ-22-0758

Current Status and Clinical Outcomes of Oral Anticoagulant Discontinuation After Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation in Japan - Findings From the AF Frontier Ablation Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: Although the incidences of stroke/TIA, major bleeding, and death were relatively low among patients for whom OAC therapy was discontinued, stroke/TIA occurrence was strongly associated with a high baseline stroke risk rather than with OAC status. Thus, discontinuation of OAC therapy requires careful consideration, especially in patients with a high baseline stroke risk. PMID: 31619591 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Association of Tamoxifen Use and Reduced Cardiovascular Events Among Asian Females With Breast Cancer.
Conclusions: In Asian female breast cancer patients, tamoxifen use was associated with reduced risks of AMI, ischemic, hemorrhagic stroke and total cardiovascular events. PMID: 24107360 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Baseline Characteristics of Elderly Japanese Patients Aged ≥75 Years With Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation and a History of Stroke - ANAFIE Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: In this unique nationwide NVAF registry of >30,000 elderly patients, >90% of patients, even those with HS, received anti-thrombotic therapy, nearly always with OAC. DOAC were the major choice of OAC. PMID: 31983727 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Effectiveness and Safety of Rivaroxaban by General Practitioners - A Multicenter, Prospective Study in Japanese Patients With Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation (GENERAL)
CONCLUSIONS: The low incidence of adverse events, including stroke/SE and bleeding, in patients prescribed rivaroxaban by general practitioners supports its use as a safe and efficacious treatment in the standard clinical care of high-risk patient populations.PMID:33814525 | DOI:10.1253/circj.CJ-20-1244

Left Atrial Appendage Closure During Coronary Bypass Surgery in Patients on Hemodialysis
CONCLUSIONS: Concomitant LAA closure during CABG can reduce the risk of death and stroke in ESRD-HD patients with normal sinus rhythm.PMID:36928272 | DOI:10.1253/circj.CJ-22-0573

Inappropriate Use of Oral Anticoagulants for Patients With Atrial Fibrillation.
Conclusions:The Fushimi AF Registry provides a unique snapshot of current AF management in an urban community in Japan. The present study reveals inappropriate use of OAC for patients with AF, indicating discordance between guideline recommendations and real-world clinical practice. Impact of Hypertension and Subclinical Organ Damage on the Incidence of Cardiovascular Disease Among Japanese Residents at the Population and Individual Levels - The Circulatory Risk in Communities Study (CIRCS).
CONCLUSIONS: HT and hypertensive subclinical organ damage are significantly associated with incident stroke and CAD at the population level, suggesting that management of HT and assessment of subclinical organ damage in hypertensive subjects at a screening program are still beneficial for community-based CVD prevention. Clinical Predictors of Right Ventricular Myocardial Fibrosis in Patients With Repaired Tetralogy of Fallot.
CONCLUSIONS: Under conditions of RV volume overload, a right-to-left ventricular systolic pressure ratio >0.45 was a predisposing factor for progression of RV myocardial fibrosis in patients with repaired TOF. PMID: 29353862 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

"Ikigai", Subjective Wellbeing, as a Modifier of the Parity-Cardiovascular Mortality Association - The Japan Collaborative Cohort Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Nulliparous or high parity women without ikigai had higher mortality from stroke and/or total CVD, suggesting that ikigai attenuated the association between parity and CVD mortality in Japanese women. PMID: 29618706 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
