Reverse Right Ventricular Remodeling After Lung Transplantation in Patients With Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Under Combination Therapy of Targeted Medical Drugs.
CONCLUSIONS: Although severe RV dysfunction and dilation were observed in patients with end-stage PAH despite combination therapy of PAH-targeted drugs, RV function and morphology were improved after reduction of RV pressure load by LTx. PMID: 28100891 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Sex-Related Differences in the Clinical Events of Patients With Atrial Fibrillation - The Fushimi AF Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrated that female sex is not independently associated with an increased risk of thromboembolism, but is associated with a decreased risk of intracranial hemorrhage and all-cause death in Japanese AF patients enrolled in the Fushimi AF Registry. PMID: 28539562 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Useful Computed Tomography Score for Estimation of Early Neurologic Outcome in Post-Cardiac Arrest Patients With Therapeutic Hypothermia.
CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that an initial CT score (ASPECTS-b) could help estimate early neurologic outcomes in post-cardiac arrest patients treated with therapeutic hypothermia. PMID: 28592725 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Silent Cerebral Infarction in East Asian vs. Non-Asian Atrial Fibrillation Patients - Meta-Analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: In East Asia, AF was significantly associated with SCI and no racial difference was seen between East Asian and non-Asian patients. The present findings offer clinicians new insights into the association between AF and SCI. PMID: 29279460 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Impact of B-Type Natriuretic Peptide Level on Risk Stratification of Thromboembolism and Death in Patients With Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation - The Hokuriku-Plus AF Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: In a real-world cohort of Japanese NVAF patients, high BNP was significantly associated with TE and death. Plasma BNP might be a useful biomarker for these adverse clinical events. PMID: 29491320 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Clinical Correlates and Prognostic Value of Elevated Right Atrial Pressure in Patients With Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.
CONCLUSIONS: Elevated RAP in patients with HCM is associated with left-sided heart failure and is an independent predictor of all-cause mortality and new-onset AF. PMID: 29526913 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Sex Differences in Long-Term Clinical Outcomes in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation Undergoing Coronary Stent Implantation.
CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with concomitant AF and coronary stenting, there were no significant differences in the adjusted 3-year risks for all-cause death, myocardial infarction, and stroke between men and women. However, women as compared with men were associated with excess adjusted risk for major bleeding. PMID: 29593146 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Comparison Between Long-Term Clinical Outcomes of Vitamin K Antagonist and Direct Oral Anticoagulants in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention.
CONCLUSIONS: Compared with DOACs, VKA with poorly controlled INR and antiplatelet agents correlated with adverse outcomes of death, MI, stroke, and TLR in patients undergoing PCI. PMID: 29863094 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Impact of the Coronary Artery Calcium Score on Mid- to Long-Term Cardiovascular Mortality and Morbidity Measured With Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography.
CONCLUSIONS: An elevated CACS with the use of CCTA is an independent predictor of mid- to long-term cardiovascular mortality and morbidity in patients suspected of having CAD. PMID: 29984787 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Current Status, Time Trends and Outcomes of Combination Therapy With Oral Anticoagulant and Antiplatelet Drug in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation - The Fushimi AF Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: In Japanese AF patients receiving OAC, the prevalence of combination therapy decreased, with the proportion of NOAC use increasing in 2011-2017. Many patients, however, received off-label NOAC under-dosing, especially in the combination therapy group. Patients with combination therapy had higher incidences of major bleeding as well as stroke/systemic embolism, compared with OAC monotherapy. PMID: 30381701 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Midterm Outcomes of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement in Dialysis Patients With Aortic Valve Stenosis.
CONCLUSIONS: Satisfactory in-hospital outcomes were achieved in dialysis patients after TAVR. Various problems, however, such as complications particular to dialysis patients and valve durability, remained at midterm follow-up. Further studies are recommended to solve these problems, and prudent preoperative assessments should be mandatory. PMID: 31118365 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
