Japanese Multicenter Outcomes With the HeartMate II Left Ventricular Assist Device in Patients With Small Body Surface Area.
CONCLUSIONS: Results for HMII LVAD as BTT in the post-approval era showed excellent survival and functional capacity improvement. Of particular interest to the Japanese patient population are the excellent results in patients with small BSA.

Reverse Right Ventricular Remodeling After Lung Transplantation in Patients With Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Under Combination Therapy of Targeted Medical Drugs.
CONCLUSIONS: Although severe RV dysfunction and dilation were observed in patients with end-stage PAH despite combination therapy of PAH-targeted drugs, RV function and morphology were improved after reduction of RV pressure load by LTx.

CONCLUSIONS: Biplane-TEE guided antegrade multiple-inflation BAV might have the potential to improve periprocedural survival without increasing complications, compared with conventional retrograde BAV in patients with severe AS.

Sex-Related Differences in the Clinical Events of Patients With Atrial Fibrillation - The Fushimi AF Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrated that female sex is not independently associated with an increased risk of thromboembolism, but is associated with a decreased risk of intracranial hemorrhage and all-cause death in Japanese AF patients enrolled in the Fushimi AF Registry.

Useful Computed Tomography Score for Estimation of Early Neurologic Outcome in Post-Cardiac Arrest Patients With Therapeutic Hypothermia.
CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that an initial CT score (ASPECTS-b) could help estimate early neurologic outcomes in post-cardiac arrest patients treated with therapeutic hypothermia.

Silent Cerebral Infarction in East Asian vs. Non-Asian Atrial Fibrillation Patients - Meta-Analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: In East Asia, AF was significantly associated with SCI and no racial difference was seen between East Asian and non-Asian patients. The present findings offer clinicians new insights into the association between AF and SCI.

Impact of B-Type Natriuretic Peptide Level on Risk Stratification of Thromboembolism and Death in Patients With Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation - The Hokuriku-Plus AF Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: In a real-world cohort of Japanese NVAF patients, high BNP was significantly associated with TE and death. Plasma BNP might be a useful biomarker for these adverse clinical events.

Sex Differences in Long-Term Clinical Outcomes in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation Undergoing Coronary Stent Implantation.
CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with concomitant AF and coronary stenting, there were no significant differences in the adjusted 3-year risks for all-cause death, myocardial infarction, and stroke between men and women. However, women as compared with men were associated with excess adjusted risk for major bleeding.

Current Status, Time Trends and Outcomes of Combination Therapy With Oral Anticoagulant and Antiplatelet Drug in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation - The Fushimi AF Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: In Japanese AF patients receiving OAC, the prevalence of combination therapy decreased, with the proportion of NOAC use increasing in 2011-2017. Many patients, however, received off-label NOAC under-dosing, especially in the combination therapy group. Patients with combination therapy had higher incidences of major bleeding as well as stroke/systemic embolism, compared with OAC monotherapy.

Midterm Outcomes of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement in Dialysis Patients With Aortic Valve Stenosis.
CONCLUSIONS: Satisfactory in-hospital outcomes were achieved in dialysis patients after TAVR. Various problems, however, such as complications particular to dialysis patients and valve durability, remained at midterm follow-up. Further studies are recommended to solve these problems, and prudent preoperative assessments should be mandatory.
