Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology in Asia.
Abstract Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in the world and half of the cases of CVD are estimated to occur in Asia. Compared with Western countries, most Asian countries, except for Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand, have higher age-adjusted mortality from CVD. In Japan, the mortality from CVD, especially stroke, has declined continuously from the 1960s to the 2000s, which has contributed to making Japan into the top-ranking country for longevity in the world. Hypertension and smoking are the most notable risk factors for stroke and coronary artery disease, whereas dyslipidemia a...

Comparison of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention With Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting in Unprotected Left Main Coronary Artery Disease - 5-Year Outcome From CREDO-Kyoto PCI/CABG Registry Cohort-2.
CONCLUSIONS: CABG as compared with PCI was associated with better long-term outcome in patients with ULMCAD, especially those with high anatomical complexity. PMID: 25818902 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Current Status and Outcomes of Direct Oral Anticoagulant Use in Real-World Atrial Fibrillation Patients - Fushimi AF Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: In real-world clinical practice, there were no significant differences in stroke/SE events or major bleeding events for DOAC compared with warfarin in patients with AF. PMID: 28428449 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Utilization of Anticoagulant and Antiplatelet Agents Among Patients With Atrial Fibrillation Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention - Retrospective Cohort Study Using a Nationwide Claims Database in Japan.
CONCLUSIONS: Among Japanese AF patients who underwent PCI, prescriptions for antiplatelet agents were more common than those for anticoagulant agents. The majority of study participants were classified as high risk, suggesting a need for a new risk classification that reflects the risk profiles of Japanese patients. Comparative Safety and Effectiveness of Apixaban vs. Warfarin in Oral Anticoagulant-Na ïve Japanese Patients With Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation - A Retrospective Chart Review Study
CONCLUSIONS: The benefit of apixaban over warfarin for the reduction in risk of major bleeding and stroke/SE could be generalizable to daily clinical practice and to patients with reduced renal function.PMID:34897136 | DOI:10.1253/circj.CJ-21-0682

10-Year Trends of Antithrombotic Therapy Status and Outcomes in Japanese Atrial Fibrillation Patients - The Fushimi AF Registry
CONCLUSIONS: Over the past 10 years, there has been a major transition in antithrombotic therapy and a decline in the incidence of adverse events in AF patients.PMID:35283403 | DOI:10.1253/circj.CJ-22-0023

Relationship Between Direct Oral Anticoagulant Doses and Clinical Outcomes in Elderly Patients With Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation - ANAFIE Registry Sub-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Inappropriate low DOAC doses (under- or off-label dose) were not associated with stroke/SEE or major bleeding but were associated with all-cause death.PMID:37482411 | DOI:10.1253/circj.CJ-23-0143

Comparison of Predictability of Future Cardiovascular Events Between Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Stage Based on CKD Epidemiology Collaboration Equation and That Based on Modification of Diet in Renal Disease Equation in the Japanese General Population.
Conclusions: Better discrimination was achieved using eGFR(CKDEPI) than eGFR(MDRD) on univariate analysis. NRI analysis indicated that the use of eGFR(CKDEPI) instead of eGFR(MDRD) offered a significant improvement in reclassification of death risk. PMID: 23428718 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
