Timing of Treatment Initiation With Oral Anticoagulants for Acute Ischemic Stroke in Patients With Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation.
CONCLUSIONS: Our study revealed that neurologists began OACs earlier in patients with mild acute cerebral infarction. Even in patients with severe stroke, OACs were started earlier than expected. PMID: 27980235 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Relationship Between Bacteremia and Hemorrhagic Stroke in Patients With Continuous-Flow Left Ventricular Assist Device.
CONCLUSIONS: Bacteremia was an independent risk factor of hemorrhagic stroke in patients in the chronic phase, with the highest risk seen in the early phase following an episode of bacteremia. PMID: 28943532 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Ability of B-Type Natriuretic Peptide Testing to Predict Cardioembolic Stroke in the General Population - Comparisons With C-Reactive Protein and Urinary Albumin.
CONCLUSIONS: In the general population, plasma BNP was an excellent biomarker for predicting the incidence of cardioembolic stroke when used alone or in combination with established stroke risk factors. PMID: 29386475 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Nonfasting Glucose and Incident Stroke and Its Types - The Circulatory Risk in Communities Study (CIRCS).
CONCLUSIONS: Nonfasting glucose concentration, either as a diagnosis of prediabetic and diabetic types or as a continuous variable, proved to be an independent predictor significantly attributed to incident total stroke, especially ischemic stroke and lacunar infarction, in the general population. PMID: 29445058 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Impact of Prior Ischemic Stroke on Outcomes in Patients With Heart Failure - A Propensity-Matched Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Prior ischemic stroke was a potent and persistent risk predictor of death and readmission among patients with HF after accounting for clinical characteristics. PMID: 32893260 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Relationship of Ambient Temperature Parameters to Stroke Incidence in a Japanese Population - Takashima Stroke Registry, Japan, 1988-2010
CONCLUSIONS: Higher temperatures, irrespective of the parameter (average, minimum, or maximum), had a protective effect against stroke occurrence in Japan.PMID:34321376 | DOI:10.1253/circj.CJ-21-0325

Epidemiology of Stroke and Coronary Artery Disease in Asia.
Abstract Stroke and coronary artery disease (CAD) are major causes of death throughout the world. As half of the world's population lives in Asian countries, prevention of stroke and CAD in Asia is crucial. According to the vital statistics, East Asian countries have a lower mortality rate for CAD than for stroke. In contrast, CAD is a more common cause of death than stroke in other Asian countries and Western countries. Hypertension, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, and smoking are major risk factors for stroke and CAD in Asia as well as in Western countries. In an observational study in Japan, the stroke incidenc...

CHADS2, CHA2DS2-VASc, and R2CHADS2 Scores Are Associated With 3-Month Functional Outcome of Stroke in Patients With Prior Coronary Artery Disease.
Conclusions: CHADS2, CHA2DS2-VASc and R2CHADS2 are useful in predicting functional status after stroke in CAD patients. PMID: 24694770 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Comparison of Antiplatelet and Antithrombotic Therapy for Secondary Prevention of Ischemic Stroke in Patients With Peripheral Artery Disease.
Conclusions: Cilostazol and clopidogrel were more effective in preventing recurrent ischemic stroke without increased hemorrhagic events than aspirin in patients with PAD. PMID: 23269006 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
