Wants Talk Psychotherapy but Cannot Talk: EMDR for Post-stroke Depression with Expressive Aphasia
CONCLUSION This is the first reported case demonstrating that EMDR can be effective for depression, even in those with severe expressive aphasia. In our case, there was no reluctance to disclose information, simply a neurological inability to do so. Through preparation, patience, perseverance, and plasticity (clinician flexibility, though perhaps also neuroplasticity), the patient’s PSD gradually improved, and she was able to reinvent her life within her limitations. Unfavorable Outcome of Thrombolysis in Chinese Patients with Cardioembolic Stroke: a Prospective Cohort Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with cardioembolic stroke had more SICH after thrombolysis, and worse clinical outcome at 3-month follow-up compared with those with LAA. This emphasizes the importance of preventing cardioembolism. PMID: 26096605 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Characteristics of Neurogenic Voiding Dysfunction in Cerebellar Stroke: A Cross-Sectional, Retrospective Video Urodynamic Study.
We report the video urodynamic findings of 15 patients with cerebellar stroke, including eight patients with ischemic and seven with hemorrhagic stroke. Their mean age was 75 ± 13.4 years and the mean interval from stroke to video urodynamic study was 11.2 ± 17.9 months. At urodynamic study, four (50 %) patients with ischemic stroke had urinary incontinence as did two (28 %) patients with hemorrhagic stroke. Modafinil for the Improvement of Patient Outcomes Following Traumatic Brain Injury
Conclusion. Modafinil is a central nervous system stimulant with well-established effectiveness in the treatment of narcolepsy and shift-work sleep disorder. There is conflicting evidence about the benefits of modafinil in the treatment of fatigue and EDS secondary to TBI. Obstructive Sleep Apnea as an Independent Stroke Risk Factor: A Review of the Evidence, Stroke Prevention Guidelines, and Implications for Neuroscience Nursing Practice
Discussion: OSA is highly prevalent in patients with stroke/TIA independently increasing stroke risk. CPAP studies revealed reduced stroke recurrence and improved recovery with feasible initiation in stroke units. Patients with stroke/TIA have less OSA-associated daytime sleepiness and obesity, making the usual screening tools insufficient and CPAP adherence challenging. Treating OSA decreases stroke prevalence and mortality. OSA initiatives empower neuroscience nurses to integrate this OSA evidence into clinical practice and improve stroke/TIA patient outcomes.

Can Children Reduce Delayed Hospital Arrival for Ischemic Stroke?: A Systematic Review of School-Based Stroke Education
Conclusions: School-based stroke education programs appear effective to improve knowledge of stroke symptoms. Research is needed to determine if children who participate are able to recognize stroke and respond appropriately by calling 911 in the real world. More study is needed about transfer of stroke knowledge from child to parent. Strategies to improve parent participation are needed.

Association of APOE (E2, E3 and E4) gene variants and lipid levels in ischemic stroke, its subtypes and hemorrhagic stroke in a South Indian population
In conclusion, our results suggest that APOE polymorphism does seem to play a role in hemorrhagic stroke and also in the development of specific subtypes of ischemic stroke. Further, in ischemic stroke VLDL and triglycerides levels were found to be significantly associated with E2/E4 and E3/E4 genotypes.

Gene expression profiling in whole blood stimulated ex vivo with lipopolysaccharide as a tool to predict post ‐stroke depressive symptoms: Proof‐of‐concept study
We studied if blood gene expression could facilitate identification of persons who will develop depression 3 months after ischemic stroke. Venous blood samples were collected on day 3 after stroke. Obtained blood was stimulated in vitro with lipopolysaccharide, a powerful inducer of gene expression. After stimulation, RNA was isolated and sequenced. Expression of 510 genes differed between patients who developed depression and those who had not depression after stroke.
