Abstract The activation of the complement system may be involved in the pathology of stroke and type 2 diabetes (T2DM). We therefore evaluated the long-term prognostic value of early measurement of serum mannose-binding lectin (MBL) levels, an activator of the complement system, in Chinese T2DM with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Rationale and design of Short-Term EXenatide therapy in Acute ischaemic Stroke (STEXAS): a randomised, open-label, parallel-group study
Conclusions As GLP-1 analogues require elevated glucose levels to exert their insulin potentiating activity, the use of exenatide in the management of hyperglycaemia in AIS may reduce the incidence of hypoglycaemia, thereby conferring a benefit in morbidity and mortality for patients in the long term. Offsetting the impact of smoking and e-cigarette vaping on the cerebrovascular system and stroke injury: Is Metformin a viable countermeasure?
In this study we provide additional in vivo evidence showing that MF can effectively reduce the oxidative and inflammatory risk for stroke and attenuate post-ischemic brain injury promoted by TS and e-Cig vaping. Our data also suggest that MF administration could be extended as prophylactic care during the time window required for the renormalization of the risk levels of stroke following smoking cessation thus further studies in that direction are warrated. Carotid artery disease is a well-known cause of stroke. In Malaysia, stroke is the third most common cause of death [1]. To our knowledge, there is still limited information regarding stroke and its associated risk factors. Strokes from ischemic infarction of the brain is due to narrowing or occlusion from local thrombosis or embolization of a proximal thrombus. The incidence of ischemic stroke from carotid artery stenosis in an asymptomatic western population is approximately 2.7% according to a report from Netherlands by Hartog et al.
