Early Operation in Patients With Mitral Valve Infective Endocarditis and Acute Stroke Is Safe
Conclusions MV surgery for IE and acute stroke can be performed early with a low risk of postoperative neurologic complications. When indicated, surgical intervention for MV IE complicated by acute stroke should not be delayed.

Risk of stroke subsequent to infective endocarditis: A nationwide study
ConclusionPatients with non-surgically treated IE with a stroke during IE admission were at significant higher associated risk of subsequent stroke within the first year of follow-up as compared with patients without a stroke during IE admission. This risk difference was not evident beyond one year of discharge. These findings underline the need for identification of causes and mechanisms of recurrent strokes after IE to develop preventive means.

Airplane stroke syndrome
We describe the patient, stroke, and flight characteristics. Over the study period, 131 million passengers arrived at Melbourne airport. Our centre admitted 5727 stroke patients, of whom 42 (0.73%) had flight-related strokes. Flight-related stroke patients were younger (median age 65 versus 73, p<0.001), had similar stroke severity, and received intravenous thrombolysis more often than non-flight-related stroke patients. Purpose of review
Stroke continuous to be a leading cause of debility in the world. Infections have been associated with stroke, but are not considered as directly causal, and so they are not often included in the traditional stroke workup and management. They are especially important in patients with stroke of undetermined etiology, and in certain patient populations, such as young patients without traditional risk factors, and immunocompromised patients.

Stroke in patients with prosthetic valve endocarditis : Single-center cohort study in China.
CONCLUSION: Stroke is a common complication in PVE that increases patient mortality. Rheumatic heart disease, double valve replacement, and fungal infection may be risk factors for patients with PVE complicated by stroke.

ConclusionsStroke or stroke-like syndrome of infectious origin can be observed in an important proportion of case presenting with sensory-motor deficit of unknown origin; their accurate diagnosis has a considerable impact in terms of treatment choices and outcome.

Who Should Rather Undergo Transesophageal Echocardiography to Determine Stroke Etiology: Young or Elderly Stroke Patients?
Conclusions: TEE was highly valuable for determining stroke etiology and influenced individual secondary prevention based on available treatment guidelines and expert opinion in most cases. In young patients the impact of TEE was limited to the detection of septal anomalies. By contrast, in older patients TEE detected high numbers of complex aortic atheroma and potential indicators of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.

Anemia Is a Risk Factor of New Intraoperative Hemorrhagic Stroke During Valve Surgery for Endocarditis.
CONCLUSIONS: Intraoperative hemorrhagic stroke was not rare, and ectopic hemorrhagic stroke, associated with preoperative anemia, was more prevalent than hemorrhagic transformation of existing cerebral lesions.
