Meta-Analysis of Early or Late Surgery for Infective Endocarditis and Associated Stroke
Background: Surgery is recommended for infective endocarditis patients who develop ischaemic stroke, however the optimal timing of surgery remains controversial. In this meta-analysis, we compared the outcomes of early and delayed cardiac surgery for infective endocarditis in this setting.

Surgical management of infective endocarditis complicated by ischemic stroke
Abstract Embolism to the central nervous system is a frequent and important complication of infective endocarditis. While early surgery improves outcomes in many groups of patients with infective endocarditis, ischemic stroke secondary to septic embolism carries the risk of hemorrhagic transformation and neurological deterioration with heparinization and cardiopulmonary bypass. We review the literature regarding the surgical management of infective endocarditis in patients with cerebral emboli.

Role of Echocardiography in Assessment of Cardioembolic Sources: a Strong Diagnostic Resource in Patients with Ischemic Stroke
AbstractPurpose of ReviewThis review will discuss the most frequent sources of cardiac embolism and the role of echocardiography in these different clinical settings, and, in addition, provide suggestions about the choice between transthoracic (TTE) and transesophageal echocardiography (TEE).Recent FindingsStroke is the third leading cause of death in industrial countries, and 15 –40% of all ischemic strokes are due to cardioembolism. TTE and TEE are cornerstones in the detection of cardioembolic sources and provide fundamental information about the embolic risk and most suitable treatment of these patients, improving lo...

Pediatric Infective Endocarditis and Stroke:A 13-years Single-center Review
Objective: To explore the relationship between pediatric infective endocarditis and stroke.Patients and Methods: All children with infective endocarditis from January 2002 to December 2015 were included as our sample, and their medical records were comprehensively reviewed. Results: Sixty children with infective endocarditis were identified, including 30 boys and 30 girls aged from 8 months to 18 years (mean ±SD:10.3±5.6), among which 43 (71.6%) had congenital heart diseases. Left-sided endocarditis occurred in 25 of all patients (41.7%), and vegetation was found in 58 of them (96.6%).

Acute ischemic stroke treated with mechanical thrombectomy and fungal endocarditis: a case report and systematic review of the literature
We report a case of an acute ischemic stroke treated by mechanical thrombectomy, with the histopathological analysis of the retrieved clot followed by the confirmation of fungal endocarditis. An extensive review of the literature has been proposed and three key points concerning the fungal endocarditis predisposing factors, the relation between thrombolysis and hemorrhagic risk and, finally, the importance of clot analysis have been discussed.

Safety and Efficacy of Thrombolysis and Mechanical Thrombectomy in Infective Endocarditis
We read with much interest the article “Acute Ischemic Stroke Treatment in Infective Endocarditis: Systemic Review” by Bettencourt et al, published in your esteemed journal. Authors have reviewed 37 articles including 52 patients. Sixteen of whom received IV thrombolysis, 22 received mechanical thrombectomy, 11 received combined trea tment. The authors stated that the quality of the articles were low. And have concluded that the risk of intracerebral hemorrhage was 4 times higher in the group treated with IV thrombolysis comparing to the group treated with thrombectomy.
