IJERPH, Vol. 18, Pages 5291: Exploring the Impact of COVID-19 Response on Population Health in Saudi Arabia: Results from the “Sharik” Health Indicators Surveillance System during 2020
Conclusions: This study shows some evidence of the impact of responses to COVID-19 on the health of the population in Saudi Arabia. Significant reductions in fruit and vegetable intake and physical activity, and significant increases in e-cigarette use, hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia may increase the burden of chronic diseases in Saudi Arabia in the near future. Thus, continuous monitoring of the health risk factors within the population, and early interventions, are recommended to prevent future increases in chronic diseases.

IJERPH, Vol. 18, Pages 4666: Predictors of Adherence to Lifestyle Recommendations in Stroke Secondary Prevention
Blake The risk of recurrent vascular events is high following ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA). Unmanaged modifiable risk factors present opportunities for enhanced secondary prevention. This cross-sectional study (n = 142 individuals post-ischaemic stroke/TIA; mean age 63 years, 70% male) describes adherence rates with risk-reducing behaviours and logistical regression models of behaviour adherence. Predictor variables used in the models com-prised age, sex, stroke/TIA status, aetiology (TOAST), modified Rankin Scale, cardiovascular fit-ness (VO2peak) measured as peak oxygen uptake during increment...

Evidence-based stroke rehabilitation: do priorities for practice change and feasibility of implementation vary across high income, upper and lower-middle income countries?
CONCLUSION: We have identified healthcare providers' priorities for addressing international practice change across socioeconomic regions. By focusing on the most feasible key areas, we can aid the channeling of appropriate resources to bridge the disparities in stroke outcomes across HICs, UMICs and LMICs.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONIt is pertinent to examine the differences in priorities of stroke rehabilitation professionals and the feasibility of implementing evidence-based practice across socioeconomic regions. There is an urgent necessity for the development of clinical practice guidelines for stroke rehabilitation...

Substitution of pure fruit juice for fruit and sugar-sweetened beverages and cardiometabolic risk in EPIC-NL: a prospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Substituting pure fruit juice for SSBs was associated with lower cardiometabolic risk, whereas substituting pure fruit juice for fruit was not associated with cardiometabolic risk.PMID:33641692 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980021000914

Nutritional Status and Risks of Cognitive Decline and Incident Neurocognitive Disorders: Singapore Longitudinal Ageing Studies
ConclusionThe ENIGMA measure of global malnutrition risk predicts cognitive decline and incident neurocognitive disorders, suggesting the feasibility of identifying vulnerable subpopulations of older adults for correction of malnutrition risk to prevent neurocognitive disorders.

Inclusion of stroke patients in expanded cardiac rehabilitation services: a cross-national qualitative study with cardiac and stroke rehabilitation professionals.
CONCLUSIONS: Hybrid cardiac rehabilitation programmes could be tailored to deliver stroke-specific education, exercises and multidisciplinary expertise. Post-stroke cognitive impairment was identified as a key barrier to participation in cardiac rehabilitation. A cognitive rehabilitation intervention could potentially be delivered as part of cardiac rehabilitation, to address the cognitive needs of stroke and cardiac patients. Implications for rehabilitation The cardiac rehabilitation model has the potential to be expanded to include mild stroke patients given the commonality of secondary prevention needs. Up to half of st...
