Glutathione: A Samsonian life-sustaining small molecule that protects against oxidative stress, ageing and damaging inflammation
Front Nutr. 2022 Nov 1;9:1007816. doi: 10.3389/fnut.2022.1007816. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTMany local and systemic diseases especially diseases that are leading causes of death globally like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, atherosclerosis with ischemic heart disease and stroke, cancer and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causing coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19), involve both, (1) oxidative stress with excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that lower glutathione (GSH) levels, and (2) inflammation. The GSH tripeptide (γ- L-glutamyl-L-cysteinyl-glycine), the most abundant w...

Salidroside attenuates cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury by regulating TSC2-induced autophagy
In conclusion, SAL reduces the inflammatory response and oxidative stress in a concentration-dependent manner, and protects against cerebral I/R injury by modulating TSC2-induced autophagy. These findings suggest SAL may prove to be a potential therapeutic agent for ischemic stroke.PMID:36374318 | DOI:10.1007/s00221-022-06493-6

Synthesis and Pharmacological Evaluation of Novel Triazole-Pyrimidine Hybrids as Potential Neuroprotective and Anti-neuroinflammatory Agents
CONCLUSION: The possible mechanism of action was observed through the inhibition of ER stress, apoptosis, and the NF-kB inflammatory pathway. Thus, our study strongly indicates that the novel scaffolds of triazole-pyrimidine-based compounds can potentially be developed as neuroprotective and anti-neuroinflammatory agents.PMID:36376607 | DOI:10.1007/s11095-022-03429-1

Relationship between the therapeutic potential of various plant-derived bioactive compounds and their related microRNAs in neurological disorders
CONCLUSION: The emergence of miRNAs as pathological regulatory factors provides a new direction for the study of bioactive compounds in Traditional Chinese medicine and the elucidating of their epigenetic effects. Elucidating the regulatory relationship between bioactive compounds and miRNAs may help to identify new therapeutic targets and promoting the application of these compounds in precision medicine through their targeted molecular activity.PMID:36368284 | DOI:10.1016/j.phymed.2022.154501

Molecules, Vol. 27, Pages 7620: Quercetin & rsquo;s Effects on Glutamate Cytotoxicity
Molecules, Vol. 27, Pages 7620: Quercetin’s Effects on Glutamate Cytotoxicity Molecules doi: 10.3390/molecules27217620 Authors: Kade Riche Natalie R. Lenard The potentially therapeutic effects of the naturally abundant plant flavonoid quercetin have been extensively studied. An extensive body of literature suggests that quercetin’s powerful antioxidant effects may relate to its ability to treat disease. Glutamate excitotoxicity occurs when a neuron is overstimulated by the neurotransmitter glutamate and causes dysregulation of intracellular calcium concentrations. Quercetin has been shown ...
