Endovascular treatment of anterior cranial base dural arteriovenous fistulas as a first-line approach: a multicenter study
CONCLUSIONS: Most anterior cranial base DAVFs can be successfully treated via an endovascular approach. Neurological and visual complications are rare, even if the ophthalmic artery is used as the primary access route. Efforts should be focused on prospectively comparing the results of EVT and surgical management.PMID:35395632 | DOI:10.3171/2022.2.JNS212588

Prevalence and associated relating factors in patients with hereditary retinal dystrophy: a nationwide population-based study in Taiwan
Conclusions 74% of the diagnosed HRD are retinitis pigmentosa. Population-based data suggested an increased incidence of cataract in younger patients, whereas older HRD patients are more susceptible to develop CME. Further work is needed to elucidate the mechanism between these ophthalmological disorders and HRD.

Effect of retinoic acid on the neurovascular unit: A review
Brain Res Bull. 2022 Mar 26:S0361-9230(22)00080-6. doi: 10.1016/j.brainresbull.2022.03.011. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRetinoic acid is a metabolic product derived from vitamin A, acting at a nuclear level to maintain the proper transcriptional activity. Moreover, this molecule contributes to the development and maturation of the cerebral vascular system, playing a pivotal role in development and maintenance of neurovascular unit integrity. This physiological structure is comprised of glial cells, vascular cells, and neurons, ensuring the correct function of the blood-brain barrier and, at last instance, the homeostasis...

Central retinal artery occlusion: a retrospective study of disease presentation, treatment, and outcomes
CONCLUSIONS: The majority of patients with CRAO presented to eye care providers, and few present within the potential window for thrombolysis of 4.5 hours, highlighting the need for public awareness strategies. Our cohort highlights the significant rate of systemic comorbidity that exists in these patients.PMID:35307340 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcjo.2022.02.015
