Frequency and risk factors of spontaneous hemorrhagic transformation following ischemic stroke on the initial brain CT or MRI: data from the China National Stroke Registry (CNSR).
DISCUSSION: Spontaneous HT occurred in 0.92% of the patients with IS in the acute stage. Being female, excess alcohol consumption, atrial fibrillation, and a prolonged period between IS onset and initial imaging were associated with an increased risk of spontaneous HT. The relationship of platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio with clinical outcome and final infarct core in acute ischemic stroke patients who have undergone endovascular therapy.
In this study we aimed to evaluate whether the PLR had a prognostic role in stroke patients undergoing thrombectomy and attempted to determine the effect that this ratio had on their survival. METHODS: Over a three-year period, demographic, clinical, and angiographic findings of 57 consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke who underwent mechanical thrombectomy were evaluated. RESULTS: The patients were divided into two groups on the basis of a PLR level cut-off value of 145 based on receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Successful revascularization (mTICI 2b and 3) was achieved in 42 of 57 (73.7%) pa...

ARHGEF10 gene polymorphism is closely associated with the risk of ischemic stroke in Northern Han Chinese population.
This study aims to evaluate the potential association of the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of ARHGEF10 with ischemic stroke (IS) in northern Han Chinese population. Three SNPs of ARHGEF10 gene were analyzed in 385 IS patients and 362 hypertension control patients using the ligase detection reaction (LDR) method. Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that GG genotypes of SNP rs2280887 were associated with an increased risk of IS in dominant, recessive, and additive models. Moreover, SNP rs9657362 and SNP rs4480162 were significantly associated with IS in dominant and additive models. These results indicate that...

Prognostic value of serum thioredoxin levels in ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: Serum Trx might be as a biomarker of cardioembolic stroke severity. Increased serum Trx levels could be a useful tool to predict good prognosis in patients with AIS. PMID: 28828929 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The effect of normobaric oxygen in patients with acute stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Conclusions The existing trends toward benefits revealed in this meta-analysis help us appreciate the promising value of NBO, although current evidence of NBO on improving clinical outcomes of stroke is insufficient. Well-designed multi-center clinical trials are encouraged and urgently needed to further explore the efficacy of NBO on brain protection. PMID: 29600891 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Reversed ophthalmic artery flow following ischemic stroke: a possible predictor of outcomes following carotid artery stenting.
This study provides evidence that CAS is a valid and effective treatment option regardless of whether patients exhibited ROAF or not. Patients without ROAF were significantly more likely to have improved mid-term functional outcomes compared to those with ROAF. In the group without ROAF admission, CRP may play a role in predicting subsequent functional outcomes, whereas admission Barthel Index was a predictor of outcome in the ROAF group. AST to ALT ratio and risk of hemorrhagic transformation in patients with acute ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: Higher AAR was associated with an increased risk of HT after ischemic stroke. In addition, AAR might be a better biomarker for predicting HT than ALT or AST. PMID: 32697140 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Risk factors for in-hospital mortality among acute ischemic stroke patients in China: a nationwide prospective study.
Conclusions: The findings from this study may help clinicians control the risk of IHM better for patients with AIS. PMID: 33357098 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Association between insulin resistance and aspirin or clopidogrel resistance in Chinese patients with recent ischemic stroke/TIA.
Conclusions: Insulin resistance was an independent predictor for development of antiplatelet drug resistance in patients with recent minor ischemic stroke or TIA. More attention should be paid to recognize these patients and antithrombotic effect should be monitored when antiplatelet drugs were applied to these patients. The association of stroke risk factors with the future thickness of carotid atherosclerotic plaques
DISCUSSION: The effect of each predictor on plaque thickness is complicated by interactions with other risk factors, particularly for the left carotid artery. The side of carotid artery involvement should be considered for stroke prevention.PMID:37125820 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2023.2208484

Neuroprotection by peripheral nerve electrical stimulation and remote postconditioning against acute experimental ischaemic stroke.
DISCUSSION: Peripheral nerve ES appears to have a neuroprotective effect in a rat dMCAO model. This effect may indicate a neural protective mechanism underlying beneficial effect of RIPostC. PMID: 25819636 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Role of Interleukin-10 (-1082A/G) gene polymorphism with the risk of ischemic stroke: a meta-analysis.
Authors: Kumar P, Yadav AK, Misra S, Kumar A, Chakravarty K, Prasad K Abstract The role of anti-inflammatory Interleukin-10 (IL-10) cytokine gene polymorphism with the risk of ischemic stroke (IS) remains controversial. The aim of present meta-analysis was to investigate the association of IL-10 (-1082 A/G) gene polymorphism with the risk of IS. A literature search for candidate gene association studies published before 29 February 2016 was conducted in the PubMed, EMBASE, Google Scholar, and TRIP database. The following search terms were used: 'Interleukin-10' or 'IL-10' and 'Ischemic stroke' or 'IS' and 'Cerebral...

Neuroprotective effect of epidermal growth factor plus growth hormone-releasing peptide-6 resembles hypothermia in experimental stroke.
DISCUSSION: With hypothermia being a good standard neuroprotectant reference, these results provide additional proof of principle for EGF and GHRP-6 co-administration as a potentially neuroprotective stroke therapy. PMID: 27665924 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Effects of different frequencies of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in stroke patients with non-fluent aphasia: a randomized, sham-controlled study.
CONCLUSIONS: LF-rTMS and HF-rTMS are both beneficial to the recovery of linguistic function in patients with post-stroke non-fluent aphasia. LF-rTMS produced immediate benefits that persisted long-term, while HF-rTMS only produced long-term benefits. In addition, the benefits produced with LF-rTMS were more marked than those produced by HF-rTMS. PMID: 29589518 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
