Clinicopathological features of neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease diagnosed by skin biopsy
ConclusionsThe results indicated that inclusions were more easily detected in sweat gland cells in skin biopsy. The early stage of NIID could only characterized by autonomic nerve function involvement. Combined autonomic nerve dysfunction might be another relatively common manifestation in NIID.

Impact on daily clinical practice of the latest evidence on percutaneous closure of patent foramen ovale after cryptogenic stroke: a single-center experience
ConclusionAfter the publication of clinical trials that have shown benefit of PFO closure after CS, the number of inappropriate indications for closure has decreased significantly in our institution, with a higher percentage of CA, despite a clinical profile suggestive of lower causal probability of PFO.

Assessing mood and cognitive functioning in acute stroke: clinical usability of a Visual Analogue Mood Scale (VAMS)
This study thus aime d at (a) investigating the clinical usability of a Visual Analogue Mood Scale (VAMS) in acute stroke patients and (b) investigating the interplay between mood and cognition in this population.MethodsForty-one acute stroke patients were compared to 41 age-, education- and sex-matched healthy participants (HPs) on the VAMS and on cognitive measures (mental performance in acute stroke, MEPS). A control line bisection (LB) task was administered to control for potential visuo-spatial deficits in patients.ResultsPatients reported higher depression levels than HPs (lower VAMS scores); this between-group diffe...

Cerebral venous thrombosis: a retrospective unicentric analysis of clinical and neuroimaging characteristics
AbstractThrombosis of dural sinuses and/or cerebral veins (CVT) is an uncommon form of stroke, usually affecting young individuals. It has a variable clinical presentation ranging from mild cases presenting only headaches, to severe cases featuring encephalopathy, coma or status epilepticus. A retrospective cross-sectional study of patients treated in the outpatient department and in-hospital during the period from 2014 to 2020 at the Neurology Clinic —University Clinical Centre of Serbia was conducted. Forty-nine patients (24 men; 25 women) were included in the study. Twenty-three patients (46.9%) suffered a subacute fo...

Study on potential differentially expressed genes in stroke by bioinformatics analysis
In this study, bioinformatics was used to deeply analyze the pathogenesis of stroke and related key genes, so as to study the potential pathogenesis of stroke and provide guidance for clinical treatment. Gene Expression profiles of GSE58294 and GSE16561 were obtained from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO), the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified between IS and normal control group. The different expression genes (DEGs) between IS and normal control group were screened with the GEO2R online tool. The Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses of the DEGs w...

LncRNA SERPINB9P1 expression and polymorphisms are associated with ischemic stroke in a Chinese Han population
In conclusion, the lncRNA SERPINB9P1 may protect against cerebral ischemia–reperfusion injury and neurological impairment after IS. The SERPINB9P1 rs375556 polymorphism was associated with susceptibility to female IS, and SERPINB9P1 poly morphisms may influence the metabolism of blood glucose and regulation of coagulation function in patients with IS.

Evaluation of an upper limb robotic rehabilitation program on motor functions, quality of life, cognition, and emotional status in patients with stroke: a randomized controlled study
ConclusionImprovements in motor functions were observed after the treatment in both groups. Although RR group improved better in numbers, none of the outcomes except the CES-D scale were significant. Robotic rehabilitation provides a favorable alternative bringing slight benefits, and also is advantageous in terms of work power and psychological recovery, making its addition to conventional neurological rehabilitation effective and useful in patient management after stroke.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT04393480

Characteristics of symptomatic plaque on high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging and its relationship with the occurrence and recurrence of ischemic stroke
ConclusionHigh-resolution magnetic resonance imaging can be used as an assessment tool to predict the risk of stroke onset and recurrence in patients with atherosclerosis, but further research is also needed.

Neovascularization and tissue regeneration by endothelial progenitor cells in ischemic stroke
AbstractEndothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) are immature endothelial cells (ECs) capable of proliferating and differentiating into mature ECs. These progenitor cells migrate from bone marrow (BM) after vascular injury to ischemic areas, where they participate in the repair of injured endothelium and new blood vessel formation. EPCs also secrete a series of protective cytokines and growth factors that support cell survival and tissue regeneration. Thus, EPCs provide novel and promising potential therapies to treat vascular disease, including ischemic stroke. However, EPCs are tightly regulated during the process of vascular...
