Elevated troponin I levels on admission predict long-term mortality in patients with acute cerebral infarction following thrombolysis
ConclusionsEven after adjusting for several possible confounders, cTnI elevation in patients with ACI treated with rt-PA was associated with a 1.80-fold increased risk of 5-year mortality.

Evaluation of rTMS in patients with poststroke aphasia: a systematic review and focused meta-analysis
ConclusionsThere are some strong studies evaluating the efficacy of rTMS in stroke patients but further research is required to fully establish the usefulness of this treatment. This meta-analysis indicates a clinically positive effect of rTMS with or without speech and language therapy (SLT) for patients with aphasia following stroke in overall language function and expressive language, including naming, repetition, writing, and comprehension. Low-frequency (1  Hz) rTMS over the unaffected hemisphere is effective and compatible with the concept of interhemispheric inhibition. Moreover, the treatment of 1 Hz rTMS for pat...

Evaluation of T2-FLAIR combined with ASL on the collateral circulation of acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionThe T2-FLAIR sequence combined with ASL can more accurately assess the blood flow changes in the IP area, the open state of collateral circulation, and the clinical prognosis.

Times to endovascular treatment following two triage models
ConclusionsCompared to the drip-and-ship, the drive-the-doctor triage model for patients with LVO ischemic stroke in primary centers seems to guarantee a shorter time to the start of the endovascular procedure and to recanalization in our region.

Health care providers ’ effect on long-term mortality after the first-ever stroke: application of shared frailty survival models
ConclusionsDespite considering the known demographic and clinical prognostic factors, health care providers ’ effect on the patients’ survival after stroke was still significant. This may be due to the existing difference between two hospitals in facilities, management, coordination, and efficiency of treatment.

Peripheral and central smell regions in patients with stroke: an MRI evaluation
ConclusionBoth central and peripheral odor pathways were affected, and left OB in the peripheral odor pathways was even more affected in case of longer duration of the stroke. Changes in central and peripheral olfactory pathways in patients with stroke may not be aimed at neuroplasticity and repair, but rather may be a reflection of inflammation and degenerative changes in stroke.

Audio-visual stimulation for visual compensatory functions in stroke survivors with visual field defect: a systematic review
ConclusionSystematic AV training may improve the processing of visual information by recruiting subcortical pathways, and because most of the patients with visual cortex damage have an intact SC, it might be useful to use the bimodal AV training to activate retinotectal functions. Nevertheless, the underlying mechanisms supporting the reported positive effects are not currently understood. Systematic functional and/or structural imaging studies may help in understanding the underlying mechanism and inform the design of optimal training paradigms.

The effects and mechanisms of transcranial ultrasound stimulation combined with cognitive rehabilitation on post-stroke cognitive impairment
ConclusionTranscranial ultrasound stimulation combined with conventional cognitive rehabilitation therapy improved the PSCI condition with better efficacy than conventional cognitive rehabilitation therapy only. The mechanism involved may be correlated with the upregulation of BDNF and P300 induced by TUS.
