Ischemic stroke/transient ischemic attack in adults with primary immune thrombocytopenia: a meta-analysis
ConclusionsIS/TIA was not uncommon in patients with primary ITP. ITP patients have a higher risk of IS/TIA compared with the reference cohorts. Healthcare professionals should take into account the risk of IS/TIA when treating ITP patients with or without a history of IS/TIA.

Serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) levels in ischemic stroke patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis of case –control studies
AbstractSerum VEGF level is regarded to be a biomarker for the diagnosis of stroke. Even though there have been published plethora of original articles describing higher blood VEGF concentrations since the 1970s, however, there is no any meta-analysis report for serum VEGF levels in the field of evidence-based medicine yet. A systematic review was performed by searching the online biomedical databases including retrieving 14 case –control studies including within-article subgroups after fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria without the beginning date restriction, until 2020 for ischemic stroke patients. The Q q...

Stroke-like migraine attacks after radiation therapy (SMART) syndrome —a case series and review
ConclusionOur extensive review favors MRI, CT, and prolonged EEG monitoring to rule out other differentials and showed that initiation of corticosteroid therapy and antiepileptic treatment were helpful in the resolution of symptoms and prevent recurrences. Therefore, future studies should be focused on early identification and management guidelines for SMART syndrome.

Multimodal evaluation of the cerebrovascular reserve in Neurofibromatosis type 1 patients with Moyamoya syndrome
ConclusionsAlthough SPECT imaging still represents the gold standard for CBF assessment, our results suggest that data obtained using DSC perfusion technique, and in particular MTT maps, might be a very useful and noninvasive tool for evaluating hemodynamic status in MMS-NF1 patients.

Ischemic stroke in young adults in Bogota, Colombia: a cross-sectional study
ConclusionThis study demonstrates the need to make a deep evaluation of the past medical history, laboratory tests, and new risk factors in young adults. On the other hand, modifiable cardiovascular risk factors top the list, showing the need to implement health promotion strategies for young adults.

Serum level of lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 is a potential biomarker of vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia and its progression to cerebral infarction
ConclusionsThe serum marker Lp-PLA2 is an independent risk factor for the occurrence of VBD and the progression of VBD to posterior circulation ischemic stroke. Whether intervening on atherosclerosis could prevent the occurrence and development of VBD needs to be further studied.

The impact of FLAIR vascular hyperintensity on clinical severity and outcome
ConclusionIn patients with proximal middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion or stenosis ≥ 70%, a high FVH score represented severe clinical impairment and poor clinical outcomes. In acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients with proximal MCA occlusion, a high FVH score represented favorable clinical outcomes.

COVID-19-related strokes in adults below 55  years of age: a case series
ConclusionStroke may be unrelated to age and the extent of lung involvement. However, different factors may play roles in co-occurrence of stroke and COVID-19 and its outcome. Future studies with long-term follow-up and more cases are needed to assess prognostic factors.

The impact of cigarette smoking in predicting stroke using CHADS 2 and CHA 2 DS 2 -VASc schemas
ConclusionCigarette smoking status has impact on stroke stratification using CHADS2 and CHA2DS2-VASc scheme. The discrimination of the CHADS2 and CHA2DS2-VASc scheme for stroke can be significantly improved if smoking status is additionally considered.

Incidence of stroke among Saudi population: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionThe findings indicate that there are 29 stroke cases for every 100,000 people annually for individuals residing Saudi Arabia. Our values were lower than those of other high-income countries. Establishing a nationwide stroke registry is warranted for monitoring and improving healthcare services provided to stroke survivors.

Clinical characteristics of cerebral hemorrhage with bilateral sudden deafness as the first symptom
ConclusionThe results showed that patients were mostly middle-aged and elderly with no typical stroke symptoms, and a history of stroke and hypertension increased the risk of hearing loss. The cause of hearing loss in patients with cerebral hemorrhage may be related to the damage of the hearing conduction pathway or (and) the lack of blood supply to the central auditory nervous system. Detecting hearing impairment in time and actively intervening can help most patients to improve their hearing significantly. The degree of hearing damage and recovery is related to the bleeding site, the amount of bleeding, and the timely treatment.
