Atorvastatin in the treatment of lithium-induced nephrogenic diabetes insipidus: the protocol of a randomized controlled trial
Lithium is the gold-standard treatment for bipolar disorder, is highly effective in major depressive disorder, and is being investigated for therapeutic benefits in dementia, stroke, and even cancer. Approximately 350,000 Canadians use lithium and more could benefit. Despite this, clinicians are avoiding lithium, largely due to fear of renal toxicity, including irreversible chronic kidney disease (CKD). Nephrogenic Diabetes Insipidus (NDI) occurs in 20% of lithium users and independently predicts a 2-3 times increased risk of CKD.

Lithium Carbonate in a Poststroke Population: Exploratory Analyses of Neuroanatomical and Cognitive Outcomes
Conclusions Lithium pharmacotherapy may be associated with gray matter volume change and verbal memory improvement in stroke patients, providing a rationale for future trials assessing therapeutic potential of lithium in a poststroke population.

Rationale: Lithium has been used to treat bipolar disorder. Lithium has a narrow therapeutic index, with a therapeutic level between 0.6 and 1.5 mEq/L. The neuroprotective effect of lithium chloride on cognitive impairment through glycogen synthase kinase-3 β inhibition in intracerebral hemorrhage rats.

Dipeptidyl Peptidase 4 Inhibition Stimulates Distal Tubular Natriuresis and Increases in Circulating SDF-1{alpha}1-67 in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes
CONCLUSIONS DPP-4 inhibition promotes a distal tubular natriuresis in conjunction with increased levels of intact SDF-1α1-67. Because of the distal location of the natriuretic effect, DPP-4 inhibition does not affect tubuloglomerular feedback or impair renal hemodynamic function, findings relevant to using DPP-4 inhibitors for treating type 2 diabetes.

The Role of Gastrodin on Hippocampal Neurons after N-Methyl-D-Aspartate Excitotoxicity and Experimental Temporal Lobe Seizures.
In conclusion, gastrodin failed to suppress in vivo and in vitro seizures in our study. Gastrodin showed no effect on hippocampal Schaffer collateral EPSP. These findings suggest that gastrodin does not interact with ionotropic glutamate receptors to inhibit NMDA receptor-facilitated seizures. However, gastrodin showed protective effects against NMDA toxicity on cultured hippocampal slices. Nevertheless, gastrodin is still a potential neuroprotective agent against NMDA excitotoxicity, with potential benefits for stroke and patients with epilepsy.
