Heat Shock Protein A12A Encodes a Novel Prosurvival Pathway during Ischaemic Stroke.
This study investigated the effects of HSPA12A on ischaemic stroke in mice. Ischaemic stroke was induced by left middle cerebral artery occlusion for 1 h followed by blood reperfusion. We observed that HSPA12A was highly expressed in brain neurons, and neuronal HSPA12A expression was downregulated by ischaemic stroke and stroke-associated risk factors (aging, obesity and hyperglycaemia). Lithium enhances post-stroke blood-brain barrier integrity, activates the MAPK/ERK1/2 pathway and alters immune cell migration in mice.
In conclusion, we demonstrate for the first time that lithium is able to enhance post-stroke BBB integrity. Importantly, our work delivers novel insights into the exact mechanism of lithium-induced acute neuroprotection, providing critical information for future clinical trials involving lithium treatment in stroke patients. Real-time monitoring of ischemic and contralateral brain pO2 during stroke by variable length multisite resonators
Conclusions: EPR oximetry with IRs can repeatedly assess temporal changes in the brain pO2 at four sites simultaneously during stroke. This oximetry approach can be used to test and develop interventions to rescue ischemic tissue by modulating cerebral pO2 during stroke.

Lithium Carbonate in a Poststroke Population: Exploratory Analyses of Neuroanatomical and Cognitive Outcomes
