Safety and Efficacy of Cangrelor in Acute Stroke Treated with Mechanical Thrombectomy: Endovascular Treatment of Ischemic Stroke Registry and Meta-analysis INTERVENTIONAL
CONCLUSIONS: Cangrelor offers promising safety and efficacy profiles, especially considering the complex endovascular reperfusion procedures in which it is usually applied. Further large prospective data are required to confirm these findings.

Relationships between overall physical activity and step counts in able-bodied adults and stroke survivors in developing countries: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: There is a strong relationship between overall PA and step counts in able-bodied adults and stroke survivors in Benin. Step counts appear to be an indicator of PA levels in developing countries, suggesting walking as a potential exercise to improve PA levels in stroke survivors.Implications for RehabilitationStep counts could serve as an indicator of physical activity levels in stroke survivors in developing countries.Walking may be suggested as exercise to improve physical activity levels in stroke survivors in developing countries. In Africa French speaking countries, the IPAQ-AF could be used to assess physic...

Managing uncertainty: Physicians' decision-making for stroke prevention for patients with atrial fibrillation and intracerebral haemorrhage
Conclusion Physicians described the process of deciding on stroke prevention in patients with AF post-ICH as 'challenging' due to considerable 'clinical equipoise'. Key factors that affected decision-making was patient comorbidities, functional status, and patient willingness to engage with oral anticoagulation therapy. Shared decision-making was believed to be beneficial, but physicians believed that the ultimate responsibility to decide on stroke prevention lay with the clinician.PMID:35253141 | DOI:10.1055/a-1789-4824

Annual Direct Cost of Dysphagia Associated with Acute Ischemic Stroke in the United States
Dysphagia after acute ischemic stroke is frequent and increases the risk of pneumonia, insertion of feeding tube, hospital length-of-stay and rates of discharge to institutional care. However, the financial impact of dysphagia after acute ischemic stroke is not well understood.

Effect of the Implementation of a Local Care Pathway on the Transient Ischemic Attack Management in Emergency Departments
Background: Recent studies have demonstrated that urgent care decreases the risk of subsequent stroke after transient ischemic attack (TIA). In response to heterogeneous TIA management observed in our area, we developed a structured pathway, in accordance with current guidelines and adapted to local resources. We aim to assess the effect of local implementation of this care pathway on TIA management in emergency departments (EDs) in the Rhône area (France). Patients and Methods: EDs of 5 centers that had a minimum of 30 TIA/year in Lyon and Bourgoin-Jallieu participated. The first 30 consecutive patients who ha...

Estimated number of eligible patients for mechanical thrombectomy based on NIHSS and population-based Brest stroke registry
CONCLUSION: Based on NIHSS, our study provides coherent information concerning the estimated number of MT procedures to be performed in France: 4,877 to 10,494 ischemic strokes would be eligible each year in metropolitan France compared to the 6,596 thrombectomy procedures actually performed in 2018. Depending on the region, an estimated 10-20% to 90-100% increase in MT activity would be necessary to meet patient needs. These data suggest that there is still room for improvement in thrombectomy activity, particularly in certain regions of France, to allow equal access to MT to the entire French population.PMID:35181159 | D...

Cognitive Status Predicts Return to Functional Independence After Minor Stroke: A Decision Tree Analysis
About two-thirds of patients with minor strokes are discharged home. However, these patients may have difficulties returning to their usual living activities. To investigate the factors associated with successful home discharge, our aim was to provide a decision tree (based on clinical data) that could identify if a patient discharged home could return to pre-stroke activities and to perform an external validation of this decision tree on an independent cohort. Two cohorts of patients with minor strokes gathered from stroke registries at the Hôpital Pitié-Salpêtrière and University Hospital Bern were included in this s...

Initial Experience with Left Transradial Neurointerventions for Cerebral Aneurysms Using the 6-French Simmons Guiding Sheath
The use of a transradial approach utilizing a Simmons-shaped catheter for neurointervention has been steadily increasing. Although the right radial artery is commonly used, in interventional cardiology, the left transradial approach offers clear clinical benefits for right-handed patients. To the best of our knowledge, no previous studies have examined intracranial aneurysm embolization with the routine use of the left transradial approach. The aim of this study was to evaluate the technical feasibility of left transradial intracranial aneurysm embolization.

Breast Cancer and Incident Cardiovascular Events. A Systematic Analysis at the Nationwide Level
CONCLUSIONS: In a large and contemporary analysis of female patients seen in French hospitals, women with history of breast cancer had higher risk of all-cause mortality, new onset heart failure and major bleeding compared to a matched cohort of women without breast cancer. In contrast, they have a reduced risk of cardiovascular mortality, MI, and stroke.PMID:35113450 | DOI:10.1111/eci.13754

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathies requiring more monitoring for less atrial fibrillation-related complications: a clustering analysis based on the French registry on hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (REMY)
ConclusionBased on a clustering analysis, three phenogroups of HCM according to the risk of AF occurrence can be identified. It can indicate which patients should be more monitored and/or treated, particular to prevent the risk of stroke.Graphic abstract
