Thromboembolic infarction caused by an unknown patent foramen ovale 30  years after VA shunt insertion: a case report and review of the literature
ConclusionsThromboembolic events due to a PFO are rare but possible life-threatening complication after VA shunt insertion. Therefore, preoperative cardiac diagnostic might be clinically relevant prior to a VA shunt implantation to avoid such complications.

Outcome of patients receiving a continuous flow left ventricular assist device - a retrospective single center study.
Conclusions. Survival rates were good, although one third of patients were bridged with temporary circulatory support. We report a high level of freedom from pump thrombosis, fatal stroke, and driveline infection. PMID: 32292078 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

P-005 Clot spatial heterogeneity rather than histologic composition is related to FPE rate
ConclusionSPI is a useful measure of clot structural heterogeneity and could provide more insights to improve the thrombectomy outcome compared to clot compositions.Disclosures Y. Liu: None. W. Natural history of carotid artery free-floating thrombus —A single center, consecutive cohort analysis
ConclusionThe risk of recurrent ischaemic events in patients with CFFT is high, especially in the first week after diagnosis. Prospective studies are needed to further investigate the optimal management of these patients.

Scan could detect those on brink of heart attack
Conclusion This is a valuable study which shows the promise of using PET-CT with radioactively labelled sodium fluoride (NaF) as a way of identifying fatty deposits in the heart arteries that could be at risk of rupturing and causing a heart attack. The results confirmed that the marker used in this study (NaF) was better than the chemical marker normally used in PET-CT scans (FDG). The technique has the principal value of being a non-invasive technique compared with coronary angiography, which is the standard method used to look at blockages in heart arteries. As it does not involve surgical intervention, this could ha...

Organizational changes aiming to reduce iv tPA door‐to‐needle time
ConclusionsStreamlining of iv tPA logistics can reduce median DNT to <30 min in a general local hospital. Moving treatment start from the ER to the CT laboratory contributed to reduce DNT. Our organizational model was resistant to influence on DNT by patient age, gender, stroke severity, and time to hospital arrival. The incidence of SICH remained low.

HAT Score External Validity: A Predictor Of Hemorrhagic Transformation After Intravenous Thrombolysis (P3.107)
CONCLUSIONSThe consistency of the predictive capability of the scale in two great independent cohorts of t-PA-treated patients ( NINDS and HAT score ), and the presence of similar results in our cohort, indicate that this score is likely to have good external validity.Disclosure: Dr. Neto has nothing to disclose.

Recurrent ischemic strokes as the initial presentation of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura with normal platelets: a case report. (P1.296)
Conclusions:Recurrent strokes in multiple vascular territories should prompt suspicion of hypercoagulable, cardioembolic, or vasculitis/opathy. TTP can be a cause of hypercoagulability in patients with cryptogenic stroke even without major hematologic abnormalities. TTP is treatable with plasma exchange and immunosuppression. Thus, one must consider TTP even in the absence of hematologic abnormalities, especially in a young patient with no stroke risk factors and otherwise negative stroke work-up.Disclosure: Dr. Horton has nothing to disclose. Efficacy and Safety of Direct Oral Factor Xa Inhibitors in 795 Morbidly Obese Patients
Conclusions: Our study is the largest study examining morbidly obese patients on DOACS and provides further evidence of comparable efficacy and safety of the direct oral anti-Xa inhibitors, compared to warfarin, in morbidly obese patients with AF and VTE.DisclosuresKushnir: Janssen: Research Funding. MRI Quantitative T2* Mapping to Predict Dominant Composition of In Vitro Thrombus ADULT BRAIN
CONCLUSIONS: MR imaging quantitative T2* mapping can reliably identify the thrombus red blood cell content in vitro. This fast, easy-to-use sequence could be implemented in routine practice to predict stroke etiology and adapt devices or techniques for endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke.

Flow Patterns in Carotid Webs: A Patient-Based Computational Fluid Dynamics Study EXTRACRANIAL VASCULAR
CONCLUSIONS: Carotid webs are associated with increased recirculation zones and regional increased wall shear stress metrics that are associated with disturbed flow. These findings suggest that a carotid web might stimulate thrombus formation, which increases the risk of acute ischemic stroke.

Age-Dependence of Flow Homeostasis in the Left Ventricle
Conclusions: In average, blood spends 1 to 3 beats inside the LV with very low shear stress rates. The apical region is the most prone to blood stasis, particularly in mid-aged adults. The washout of blood in the normal LV is age-dependent due to physiological changes in the degree of apical penetration of the filling waves. Introduction Cardioembolic stroke is a major source of mortality and disability worldwide and blood stasis one of its major determinants (Adams et al., 1986). Left ventricular (LV) function has evolved to maximize mechanical efficiency and ensure organ perfusion at a low cost of energy and fill...

Anticoagulant management by low-dose of low molecular weight heparin in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation following hemorrhagic transformation and complicated with venous thrombosis: Five case reports and literature review
For patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) following hemorrhagic infarction (HI)/hemorrhage transformation (HT) and complicated with venous thrombosis, the management of anticoagulation is controversial. Our study intends to explore the safety and effectiveness of using low-dose of low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) to treat NVAF patients with HI (or HT) and complicated with venous thrombosis. Between January 2018 and January 2019, NVAF related acute ischemic stroke patients with HT/HI, hospitalized in the department of neurology or rehabilitation in our hospital, are enrolled retrospectively. Among them,...

Imaging spectrum of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation related neurologic events in children
CONCLUSIONS: Our series revealed PRES in ECMO-related neurologic events in addition to commonly reported thrombotic and hemorrhagic stroke in the literature. Availability of cross-sectional imaging and awareness of radiologists to these complications during ECMO or after weaning help in prompt diagnosis and treatment.PMID:36305438 | DOI:10.24953/turkjped.2022.323
