Thrombolytic therapy for pulmonary embolism.
CONCLUSIONS: There is low quality evidence that thrombolytics reduce death following acute pulmonary embolism compared with heparin. Furthermore, thrombolytic therapies included in the review were heterogeneous. Thrombolytic therapy may be helpful in reducing the recurrence of pulmonary emboli but may cause more major and minor haemorrhagic events and stroke. More high quality double blind RCTs assessing safety and cost-effectiveness are required.

Duplex ultrasound: Indications and findings in a newly created facility at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar
Conclusion: Duplex ultrasound has been shown to diagnose varied vascular pathologies even in a locale where it is a relatively new technique. It is recommended that timely referrals be made, and mobile Doppler units be acquired to save more lives and limbs in the developing world.

Gender differences and bleeding complications after PCI on first and second generation DES.
CONCLUSION: Despite higher risk profile, women treated with DES have similar outcomes as males in 1-year follow-up. However there is, an increased risk of in-hospital bleedings in women.

Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma in a Prosthetic Aortic Graft
We describe the case of a 70-year-old man with Marfan Syndrome who was found to have Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL) within an ascending aortic graft, his native aortic arch and arch vessels. Ten years previously he had undergone a Bentall's Procedure for a dilated aortic root. He presented with a left middle cerebral artery stroke. Computed tomography (CT) scan revealed multiple filling defects within the aortic arch and branch vessels suggestive of thrombus. Following the stroke, his neurological deficit improved.

Percutaneous left atrial appendage closure followed by single antiplatelet therapy: Short- and mid-term outcomes.
CONCLUSIONS: LAAC using an ACP device followed by single antiplatelet therapy could be a reasonable alternative for stroke prevention.

Paradoxical Embolism in the Setting of Inferior Vena Cava Filter Removal (P1.283)
Conclusions:Although clinically relevant events secondary to IVC filter migration and fracture are rare, they can be life-threatening. Care should be taken when choosing to place these devices, and alternative therapies should be considered when possible. They should be removed when no longer needed, as fracture rates are increased with longer dwell times. Contrast induced encephalopathy mimicking reperfusion injury (P3.285)
Conclusions:Diagnostic or therapeutic angiography is frequently performed for acute ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke. Differentiation of Clot Composition Using Conventional and Dual-Energy Computed Tomography
ConclusionThe fibrin content in blood clots is strongly associated with contrast uptake. As previously shown, the density of the clot formations in native CT scans is dependent on the RBC. Our data show that CT density and relative enhancement of clots are independent determinants of clot composition. Using both variables in the CT workup of acute ischemic stroke has the potential to have a decisive impact on patient stratification for treatment.

Conclusion: We review thyroid gland physiology and describe a systemic overview of potential false positive and false negative lack of uptake of radioiodine in the whole body along with illustrations and cases. By understanding the physiology and characteristics of radioiodine uptake and correlating with anatomical imaging, biochemical data, and clinical findings, physicians can be more confident in establishing proper management for patients with DTC using radioiodine whole body scans. Utility of single-energy and dual-energy computed tomography in clot characterization: An in-vitro study.
Conclusions Dual-energy CT with 80/Sn 140 kV had the highest accuracy for differentiating RBC-rich and fibrin-rich in-vitro thrombi. Further studies are needed to study the utility of non-contrast dual-energy CT in thrombus characterization in acute ischemic stroke.
