Aortic arch thrombosis complicated by an embolic stroke in a patient with COVID-19: A case report
CONCLUSION: Aortic thrombosis is a devastating condition that can be easily missed without clinical suspicion. Our patient developed acute ischemic stroke, most likely embolic originating from the aortic thrombus. The clinician should consider this condition in any COVID-19 patient presenting with thromboembolic events, such as stroke or acute limb ischemia. Further study is required to explain the pathophysiology of arterial/venous thrombosis in mild-moderate COVID-19 cases.PMID:34457268 | PMC:PMC8381619 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2021.102760

Insights Into Immunothrombotic Mechanisms in Acute Stroke due to Vaccine-Induced Immune Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia
In conclusion, insufficient resolution of NETs, e.g. by endogenous DNases or protection of NETs against degradation by embedded factors like the antimicrobial peptide LL-37 might thus be an important factor in the pathology of VITT besides increased NET-formation. On the basis of these findings, we discuss the potential implications of the mechanisms of disturbed NETs-degradation for diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in VITT-related thrombogenesis, other auto-immune disorders and beyond.

Early arrival did not ensure the early acquisition of intravenous thrombosis for acute ischemic stroke during the COVID ‐19 pandemic
ConclusionsA speed-safety tradeoff phenomenon from the deadline effect was observed in 17.2% of IVT cases during the COVID-19 pandemic, where longer DIT contributed a lot to this time delay. Patients without medical insurance, or admitted in official holidays were more likely to experience a delay of the deadline effect.

Malignant Cerebral Ischemia in A COVID-19 Infected Patient: Case Review and Histopathological Findings
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) is responsible for an unprecedented worldwide pandemic that has severely impacted the United States. As the pandemic continues, a growing body of evidence suggests that infected patients may develop significant coagulopathy with resultant thromboembolic complications including deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction, and ischemic stroke. However, this data is limited and comes from recent small case series and observational studies on stroke types, mechanisms, and outcomes.

SARS-CoV-2 infection and its association with thrombosis and ischemic stroke: a review
This review of current literature provides background to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as an examination of potential pathophysiologic mechanisms behind development of thrombosis and ischemic stroke related to COVID-19. SARS-CoV-2 infection is well-documented to cause severe pneumonia, however, thrombosis and thrombotic complications, such as ischemic stroke, have also been documented in a variety of patient demographics. SARS-CoV-2 infection is known to cause a significant inflammatory response, as well as invasion of vascular endothelial cells, resulting in endothelial dysfunction.

The effects of the coronavirus disease pandemic on intravenous thrombolytic therapy among patients with acute ischemic stroke in Dalian, China
We investigated the influence of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on the number of patients with acute ischemic stroke who received intravenous thrombolytic therapy (ITT) in Dalian, China, in 2...

Case Report: Cerebrovascular Events Associated With Bacterial and SARS-CoV-2 Infections in an Adolescent
We report the case of an adolescent who presented with febrile meningism and stupor. Clinical, biological, and radiological features favored the diagnosis of Lemierre syndrome (LS), with Fusobacterium necrophorum infection (sphenoid sinusitis and meningitis) and intracranial vasculitis. The patient had concurrent SARS-CoV-2 infection. Despite medical and surgical antimicrobial treatment, stroke prevention, and venous thrombosis prevention, he presented with severe cerebrovascular complications. Venous thrombosis and stroke were observed, with an extension of intracranial vasculitis, and lead to death. As both F. necrophoru...

Large Vessel Occlusions By Free Floating Thrombi in Strokes During the COVID-19 pandemic- A Single Center Observational Study
Conclusions: This study highlights the presence of FFT causing LVO as a new stroke subtype during the COVID-19 pandemic. With renewed and steeper spike in COVID-19 cases, especially new variants, the resurgence of this stroke subtype needs to be actively explored early in the course of illness to reduce morbidity and mortality.

Mortality of covid-19 patients with vascular thrombotic complications.
CONCLUSIONS: The venous thromboembolic risk in these patients is greater than the arterial, but arterial thrombosis when it occurs was associated with high mortality rates. Survival was better in patients with DVT and PE than in patients with ischemic stroke or PAT. PMID: 33342556 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis associated with SARS-CoV-2; a multinational case series
We present a series of CVST cases with SARS-CoV-2 infection. Methods In a multinational retrospective study, we collected all cases of CVST in SARS-CoV-2 infected patients admitted to nine tertiary stroke centers from the beginning of the pandemic to June 30th, 2020. We compared the demographics, clinical and radiological characteristics, risk factors, and outcome of these patients with a control group of non-SARS-CoV-2 infected CVST patients in the same seasonal period of the years 2012 –2016 from the country where the majority of cases were recruited.

Cerebrovascular Complications of COVID-19 and COVID-19 Vaccination
Circ Res. 2022 Apr 15;130(8):1187-1203. doi: 10.1161/CIRCRESAHA.122.319954. Epub 2022 Apr 14.ABSTRACTThe risk of stroke and cerebrovascular disease complicating infection with SARS-CoV-2 has been extensively reported since the onset of the pandemic. The striking efforts of many scientists in cooperation with regulators and governments worldwide have rapidly brought the development of a large landscape of vaccines against SARS-CoV-2. The novel DNA and mRNA vaccines have offered great flexibility in terms of antigen production and led to an unprecedented rapidity in effective and safe vaccine production. However, as mass vac...

The Emerging Threat of (Micro)Thrombosis in COVID-19 and Its Therapeutic Implications.
Abstract The recent emergence of SARS-CoV-2 and the ensuing global pandemic has presented a health emergency of unprecedented magnitude. Recent clinical data has highlighted that COVID-19 is associated with a significant risk of thrombotic complications ranging from microvascular thrombosis, venous thromboembolic disease and stroke. Importantly, thrombotic complications are markers of severe COVID-19 and are associated with multi-organ failure and increased mortality. The evidence to date supports the concept that the thrombotic manifestations of severe COVID-19 is due to the ability of SARS-CoV-2 to invade endo¬...
