The effect and associated factors of dispatcher recognition of stroke: A retrospective observational study.
CONCLUSIONS: The dispatchers should spend more time identifying stroke patients by following the dispatch protocol. Recognition of stroke by dispatchers was associated with improved stroke care. PMID: 29158105 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The predictive role of CHA2DS2–VASc score between venous thromboembolism and ischemic stroke: a large-scale cohort study
Conclusion: Our study is the first to concern the performance of CHA2DS2–VASc score in predicting the risk of ischemic stroke in VTE patients and the risk of VTE in ischemic stroke patients. Nevertheless, the performance of the score was modest, and the transportability of the score in these populations still needs to be defined.

Intravenous Thrombolysis in Acute Ischemic Stroke After Idarucizumab Reversal of Dabigatran Effect: Analysis of the Cases From Taiwan
Background: Asians with atrial fibrillation carry a higher risk of ischemic stroke than non-Asians even under treatment of nonvitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants. The purpose of the study was to observe the feasibility of intravenous thrombolytic therapy after administering a reversal agent, idarucizumab, in dabigatran-treated patients with acute ischemic stroke in Taiwan. Methods: Dabigatran-treated patients with acute ischemic stroke who received intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) after idarucizumab reversal were enrolled in the retrospective nationwide study.

Impact of code stroke on thrombolytic therapy in patients with acute ischemic stroke at a secondary referral hospital in Taiwan
ConclusionCode stroke is effective in reducing in-hospital delays. The accuracy of code stroke activation has acceptable sensitivity but low specificity. Rapid patient assessment by neurologists increases the number of patients eligible for thrombolytic therapy.

Renal Function-Dependent Associations of Statins with Outcomes of Ischemic Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with acute ischemic stroke, the associations of statins with mortality and functional outcomes was dependent on eGFR. PMID: 32418948 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Risk of peripheral artery disease and stroke in migraineurs with or without aura: a nationwide population-based cohort study
Conclusion: Migraineurs without established cardiovascular disease had a significantly increased risk of PAD and stroke, and the risk of stroke persists in migraineurs with or without aura, with an increased trend of PAD in migraineurs with aura. Our study result should remind clinical physicians of the risk of PAD in the future among migraineurs even without established cardiovascular disease currently, and screening for PAD and stroke may be needed in caring patients with migraine.PMID:35919822 | PMC:PMC9339415 | DOI:10.7150/ijms.72119

Predicting the Risk of Ischemic Stroke among Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis Using a Simplified RA-CHADSV Score Based on the CHA2DS2-VASc Score.
CONCLUSIONS: A simplified RA-CHADSV score, with comparable efficiency as the CHA2DS2-VASc score, but easier to use clinically was developed for predicting the risk of ischemic stroke among non-AF RA patients. PMID: 32059458 [PubMed - in process]

Acute Ischemic Stroke.
Authors: Rossi UG, Ierardi AM, Cariati M Abstract A 77-year-old woman with a history of hypertension developed acute onset of aphasia and right hemiplegia and hemisensory loss. She was urgently referred to emergency department. Cerebral multidetector computed tomographic angiography (MD-CTA) revealed an acute ischemic stroke due to the occlusion of the left middle cerebral artery (Figure 1). Since the symptoms started three hours previously, the patient was candidate for mechanical thrombectomy. The patient then performed a selective digital subtraction angiography (DSA) of the left internal carotid artery that con...

Monogenic Causes in Familial Stroke Across Intracerebral Hemorrhage and Ischemic Stroke Subtypes Identified by Whole-Exome Sequencing
Cell Mol Neurobiol. 2022 Dec 29. doi: 10.1007/s10571-022-01315-3. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWhole exome sequencing (WES) has been used to detect rare causative variants in neurological diseases. However, the efficacy of WES in genetic diagnosis of clinically heterogeneous familial stroke remains inconclusive. We prospectively searched for disease-causing variants in unrelated probands with defined familial stroke by candidate gene/hotspot screening and/or WES, depending on stroke subtypes and neuroimaging features at a referral center. The clinical significance of each variant was determined according to the American C...
