Impact of hypoxic and mesopic environments on visual acuity, contrast sensitivity and accommodation in subjects with LASIK surgery and aircrew candidate
ConclusionThere was no significant difference of visual acuity between the two groups regarding hypoxic and mesopic environment, but reduced contrast sensitivity was significant in LASIK group as compared to those of the control group. Accommodation was significantly lowered in LASIK group, compared with control group, in hypoxic environment. Whether postoperative visual performance after LASIK in aircrew during flying duty is safe might need further investigation. (Source: Journal of the Chinese Medical Association)

Correlation between lower uterine wall thickness measured by transabdominal ultrasonography and cervical length measured by transvaginal ultrasonography in Thai pregnant women
This study was a cross-sectional study. 166 singleton pregnant women were invited to participate in the study between June 2015 and December 2015. Transabdominal ultrasonography was performed to measure the lower uterine wall thickness and transvaginal ultrasonography was performed to measure the cervical length. The Spearman's rank correlation was used to evaluate the correlation between the two parameters. The inter-observer variation was assessed by using Bland–Altman plot. The outcomes of all pregnancies were followed and only those who delivered at term were included for the calculation of normal value of lower ...

The use of time-domain analysis on the choice of measurement location for pulse diagnosis research: A pilot study
This study aimed to clarify whether the blood dynamic states are identical with regard to the “three positions and nine indicators” (三部九候) listed in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).MethodsA total of 37 participants of CAD group and 20 participants of healthy group were recruited, and pressure pulse waves were measured at 18 locations on both hands. A multivariate analysis (MANOVA) was performed with a “randomized block design” using SPSS 22.0 and R 3.4.1 to examine the time-domain parameters that represented certain hemodynamic characteristics.ResultsIn CAD group, the results showed signi...

Can imaging distinguish between low-grade and dedifferentiated parosteal osteosarcoma?
ConclusionCompared with low-grade types, dedifferentiated parosteal OGS exhibits a considerably larger tumor size, more sunburst periosteal reaction, and a more frequent development of lung metastasis in the disease course. Tumor size and sunburst periosteal reaction are the most crucial imaging diagnostic factors. (Source: Journal of the Chinese Medical Association)

Comparing the reliability and accuracy of clinical measurements using plaster model and the digital model system based on crowding severity
This study aims to clarify whether 3Shape™ digital model system could be applied in orthodontic diagnostic analysis with certainty, especially under different crowding condition. Reliability, accuracy and efficiency of 3Shape™ digital model system were assessed by comparing them with traditional plaster cast.Methods29 plaster casts with permanent dentition were transformed into digital models by 3Shape™ D800 scanner. All 29 models were categorized into mild-crowding (arch length discrepancy 3 mm and 8 mm). Fourteen linear measurements were made manually using a digital caliper on plaster casts a...
