Pulse rate variability predicted cardiovascular disease in sleep disordered breathing: The Guangdong sleep health study
Pulse rate variability (PRV) predicts stroke in patients with sleep disordered breathing (SDB). However, the relationship between PRV and cardiovascular disease (CVD) was unknown in SDB.

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 6780: Developing and Planning a Protocol for Implementing Health Promoting Animal Assisted Interventions (AAI) in a Tertiary Health Setting
Simon Koblar The Ottawa Charter identifies that multiple levels of government, non-government, community, and other organizations should work together to facilitate health promotion, including in acute settings such as hospitals. We outline a method and protocol to achieve this, namely an Action Research (AR) framework for an Animal Assisted Intervention (AAI) in a tertiary health setting. Dogs Offering Support after Stroke (DOgSS) is an AR study at a major tertiary referral hospital. AAI has been reported to improve mood and quality of life for patients in hospitals. Our project objectives included applying for fun...

TSPO exacerbates acute cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury by inducing autophagy dysfunction
Exp Neurol. 2023 Sep 15:114542. doi: 10.1016/j.expneurol.2023.114542. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAutophagy is considered a double-edged sword, with a role in the regulation of the pathophysiological processes of the central nervous system (CNS) after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (CIRI). The 18-kDa translocator protein (TSPO) is a highly conserved protein, with its expression level in the nervous system closely associated with the regulation of pathophysiological processes. In addition, the ligand of TSPO reduces neuroinflammation in brain diseases, but the potential role of TSPO in CIRI is largely undiscovered. ...

Treatment of patients with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) with an electromagnetic field coupled to biorhythmically defined impulse configuration: the MicrocircMODS study
ConclusionPVT treatment was feasible and safe and could be performed without obstruction of standard patient care. An increase in microcirculatory blood flow, a rapid reduction in vasopressor use, and an improvement in global haemodynamics paralleled PVT treatment. Findings of this pilot study allowed forming a concept for a randomized trial for further proof.Graphical abstract

Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 7946: Explainable Risk Prediction of Post-Stroke Adverse Mental Outcomes Using Machine Learning Techniques in a Population of 1780 Patients
In this study, we aimed to develop a machine learning (ML) model to predict the risk of PSAMO. We retrospectively studied 1780 patients with stroke who were divided into PSAMO vs. no PSAMO groups based on results of validated depression and anxiety questionnaires. The features collected included demographic and sociological data, quality of life scores, stroke-related information, medical and medication history, and comorbidities. Recursive feature elimination was used to select features to input in parallel to eight ML algorithms to train and test the model. Bayesian optimization was used for hyperparameter tuning. Shaple...

Association of psoriasis and stroke in end-stage renal disease patients
CONCLUSIONS: Contrary to prior research in the general population, psoriasis in ESRD patients was not associated with the risk of stroke after controlling for various demographic and clinical parameters. Our finding emphasizes the importance of controlling for a variety of factors in population studies examining associations of diseases and risk factors.PMID:37716600 | DOI:10.1016/j.amjms.2023.09.014

Higher habitual dietary intakes of flavanols and anthocyanins differentially associate with lower incidence of ischemic stroke subtypes-A follow-up analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Higher habitual intakes of flavanols and anthocyanins are differentially associated with lower risk of ischemic stroke from atherosclerosis and/or cardioembolism, but not with other subtypes.PMID:37716608 | DOI:10.1016/j.tjnut.2023.09.011

CircNCOA4 knockdown attenuates OGD-induced neuron injury through miR-338-5p/PDE4B axis
Exp Brain Res. 2023 Sep 16. doi: 10.1007/s00221-023-06702-w. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCircular RNAs (circRNAs) have been revealed to be involved in the pathology of acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Herein, we aimed to study the role and mechanism of circNCOA4 in ischemic stroke. The neuron-like cell line SK-N-SH of the experiment group was cultured in oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD) condition. Cell viability and apoptosis were evaluated by cell counting kit-8 and flow cytometry. The oxidative damage and endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) were analyzed by measuring the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), malondia...

Management of Acute Cerebral Infarction by Intravenous Thrombolysis with Recombinant T Cell Receptor and Plasminogen Activator and Association of Emergency Nursing Route in the Prognosis
In this study, 100 patients were randomly selected that were equally divided into experimental and control groups. The period of hospital admission, the results of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and the Mini-mental State Examination (MMSE), the results of the Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS), and the results of the Activities of Daily Living were all analysed before and after the intervention.. Both the amount of time it took to get a diagnosis after being admitted and the amount of time it took to receive specialised therapy after receiving a diagnosis were significantly reduced in the observation group (both P value...
