Tumor-derived exosomes RNA expression profiling identifies the prognosis, immune characteristics, and treatment in HR+/HER2-breast cancer
Aging (Albany NY). 2023 Aug 29;15. doi: 10.18632/aging.204986. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTExosomes play crucial roles in intercellular communication and are involved in the onset and progression of various types of cancers, including breast cancer. However, the RNA composition of breast cancer-derived exosomes has not been comprehensively explored. We conducted microarray assays on exosomes isolated from breast cancer and healthy breast epithelial cells from three patients with hormone receptor (HR) +/ human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER2) - breast cancer and identified 817 differentially expressed genes (DEGs)....

Loss of EGF receptor polarity enables homeostatic imbalance in epithelial cell models
Mol Biol Cell. 2023 Aug 30:mbcE23040133. doi: 10.1091/mbc.E23-04-0133. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe polarized distribution of membrane proteins into apical and basolateral domains provides the basis for specialized functions of epithelial tissues. The EGF receptor (EGFR) plays important roles in embryonic development, adult epithelial tissue homeostasis, and growth and survival of many carcinomas. Typically targeted to basolateral domains, there is also considerable evidence of EGFR sorting plasticity but very limited knowledge regarding domain-specific EGFR substrates. Here we have investigated effects of selective E...

Osimertinib resistance prognostic gene signature: STRIP2 is associated with immune infiltration and tumor progression in lung adenocarcinoma
CONCLUSION: We developed a reliable prognostic model based on DEGs associated with osimertinib resistance and screened for biomarker that can predict the immune response in LUAD patients, which may help in the selection of treatment regimens after osimertinib resistance.PMID:37648810 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-05294-w

Hsa_circ_0000585 promotes chemoresistance to cis-platin in epithelial cells of ovarian cancer by modulating autophagy
CONCLUSIONS: Overall, this study provided a new insight into the role of circRNAs in the mechanism of DDP-resistance in ovarian cancer. Hsa_circRNA_0000585 may be promising therapeutic targets for the enhancement of the sensitivity of ovarian cancer cells to cisplatin-mediated chemotherapy.PMID:37643536 | DOI:10.1016/j.bbrc.2023.08.048

Preclinical evaluation of EpCAM-binding designed ankyrin repeat proteins (DARPins) as targeting moieties for bimodal near-infrared fluorescence and photoacoustic imaging of cancer
CONCLUSION: Our encouraging results show that EpCAM-binding DARPins are a promising class of targeting moieties for pan-carcinoma targeting, providing clear tumor delineation at 24 h post-injection. The work described provides the preclinical foundation for DARPin-based bimodal NIRF/PA imaging of cancer.PMID:37642704 | DOI:10.1007/s00259-023-06407-w

Regulation of Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition by Cyrtopodion Scabrum: An in vitro Study against Colorectal Cancer Cells
CONCLUSION: The results suggest that C. scabrum extract (CsE) may induce its anti-cancer activity through the inhibition of cancer cell growth and the EMT process. CCE, as a valuable natural source, could be also suggested, to be used as an alternative/complementary medicine for the treatment of cancer, in clinical trials.PMID:37642063 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2023.24.8.2765

Homologous Recombination Deficiency Testing to Inform Patient Decisions About Niraparib Maintenance Therapy for High-Grade Serous or Endometrioid Epithelial Ovarian Cancer: A Health Technology Assessment
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with newly diagnosed (advanced) or recurrent high-grade serous or endometrioid ovarian cancer, niraparib maintenance therapy improved progression-free survival compared with no maintenance therapy in tumours with HRD or HRP (GRADE: High). Because we identified no studies on the clinical utility of HRD testing, we cannot comment on how it would affect patient decisions and clinical outcomes.Over a 5-year time horizon, HRD testing for people with BRCA wild type could save $4,509 per person and lead to a loss of 0.116 QALY. The findings of our economic analyses are dependent on assumptions about the u...
