Ginkgo biloba Extract Reduces High-Glucose-Induced Endothelial Reactive Oxygen Species Generation and Cell Adhesion Molecule Expression by Enhancing HO-1 Expression via Akt/eNOS and P38 MAP Kinase Pathways.
CONCLUSION: GBE could reduce high glucose-induced endothelial adhesion via enhancing HO-1 expression through the Akt/eNOS and P38/MAPK pathways. Our findings suggest a potential strategy targeting on HO-1 induction by GBE for endothelial protection in the presence of high glucose such as that in diabetes mellitus. Contribution of human UDP-glucuronosyltransferases to the antioxidant effects of propolis, artichoke and silymarin
Conclusion: In conclusion, this study provides a possible molecular mechanism for protective antioxidant effects associated with the herbal drugs propolis, artichoke and silymarin. The herbal drug-mediated transcriptional upregulation of human detoxifying UGT1A enzymes via activation of AhR and Nrf2 leads to reduced hydrogen peroxide and oxidative stress. Because of UGT1A activation, the intake of these drugs could affect the therapeutic efficacy of other drugs when these also undergo metabolism by glucuronidation.Graphical abstract

Glycyrrhetinic Acid Protects Renal Tubular Cells against Oxidative Injury via Reciprocal Regulation of JNK-Connexin 43-Thioredoxin 1 Signaling
Conclusion: ROS-JNK-Cx43-thioredoxin 1 signaling plays a crucial role in renal tubular cell injury. JNK is involved in the regulation of thioredoxin 1 and Cx43, and Cx43 reciprocally regulates thioredoxin 1. Inhibition of gap junctions by Ga alleviated renal tubular oxidative injury via improvement of thioredoxin 1-mediated redox signaling.

Abstract Since it has been known that shikonin derived from a medicinal plant possesses anti-cancer activity, we wonder whether acetylshikonin (ASK), a derivate of shikonin, could be used to treat hepatocellular carcinoma cells expressing hepatitis B virus X protein (HBX), an oncoprotein from hepatitis B virus. Geniposide Suppresses Hepatic Glucose Production via AMPK in HepG2 Cells.
This study was designed to determine, for the first time, how geniposide from G. jasminoides regulates hepatic glucose production, and the underlying mechanisms. During in vitro study, we found the inhibitory effect of geniposide on the hepatic glucose production is partly through AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activation in HepG2 cells. Ophiopogonin D maintains Ca(2+) homeostasis in rat cardiomyocytes in vitro by upregulating CYP2J3/EETs and suppressing ER stress.
