Liver and muscle-specific effects of phoenixin-20 on the insulin-like growth factor system mRNAs in zebrafish
CONCLUSIONS: Collectively, this research shows that Pnx-20 is a tissue-specific regulator of the liver (suppressor) and muscle (stimulant) Igf signaling in both male and female zebrafish.PMID:35305530 | DOI:10.1016/j.ghir.2022.101456

Complement C3 and Activated Fragment C3a Are Involved in Complement Activation and Anti-Bacterial Immunity
In this study, we examined the immunological properties of C3 and its activated fragment C3a from Japanese flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) (PoC3 and PoC3a), a teleost species with important economic value. PoC3 is composed of 1655 amino acid residues, contains the six domains and highly conserved GCGEQ sequence of the C3 family. We found that PoC3 expression occurred in nine different tissues and was upregulated by bacterial challenge. In serum, PoC3 was able to bind to a broad-spectrum of bacteria, and purified native PoC3 could directly kill specific pathogen. When PoC3 expression in Japanese flounder was knocked down ...

Long Noncoding RNA Metastasis-Associated Lung Adenocarcinoma Transcript 1 in Extracellular Vesicles Promotes Hepatic Stellate Cell Activation, Liver Fibrosis and β-Catenin Signaling Pathway
Evidence shows that the long noncoding RNA metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (Lnc-MALAT1) is associated with activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) and liver fibrosis in animal and in vitro studies. However, its roles in human liver fibrosis and the underlying mechanism in HSC activation are not yet defined. In our current study, the expression of Lnc-MALAT1 in the fibrotic liver tissues and in the plasma extracelllar vesicles (EVs) of liver fibrosis patients was detected by FISH and qRT-PCR. The results revealed that enhanced expression of Lnc-MALAT1 was co-localized with increased expression of ...

MALAT1 Improves Functional Recovery after Traumatic Brain Injury through Promoting Angiogenesis in Experimental Mice
Brain Res. 2021 Nov 19:147731. doi: 10.1016/j.brainres.2021.147731. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs a highly evolutionary conserved lncRNA, MALAT1 was first demonstrated to associate with metastasis of lung tumor by promoting angiogenesis. Activated vasculature was recently indicated to assist neurogenesis by secreting neurotrophic factor Ang1 (Angiopoietin-1). The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential role of MALAT1 in angiogenesis following traumatic brain injury (TBI). Adult male mice were subjected to controlled cortical impact (CCI) and brain microvacular endothelial cells were exposed to oxygen-gluco...

Hsa_circRNA_103124 Upregulation in Crohn ’s Disease Promotes Cell Proliferation and Inhibits Autophagy by Regulating the Hsa-miR-650/AKT2 Signaling Pathway
In this study, hsa_circRNA_103124 was predicted to interact with hsa-miR-650. Gene Ontology (GO) and pathway analyses identified AKT serine/threonine kinase 2 (AKT2) as the downstream target protein of hsa-miR-650. Activated AKT2 inhibits autophagy, but promotes cell proliferation. Recent studies suggest that the inhibition of autophagy is one of the mechanisms of CD pathogenesis. Therefore, we inferred that hsa_circRNA_103124 might regulate autophagy and proliferation by targeting AKT2 as a sponge for hsa-miR-650. Here, quantitative reverse transcription PCR (RT-QPCR) results revealed that upregulated hsa_circRNA_103124 e...

Exposure of silver nanocolloids causes glycosylation disorders and embryonic deformities in medaka
This study addressed the glycobiological effects of SNC exposure on medaka embryogenesis. After exposure of medaka embryos to SNC, deformities such as small heads and deformed eyes were observed. The expression of five glycan-related genes (alg2, gnsb, b4galt2, b3gat1a, and b3gat2) was significantly altered, with changes depending on the embryonic stage at exposure, with more severe deformities with exposure at earlier stages. In situ hybridization analyses indicated that the five genes were expressed mainly in the head region; exposure of SNC suppressed alg2 and gnsb and enhanced b4galt2 and b3gat1a expression relative to...

Characterization of chinese tongue sole (Cynoglossus semilaevis) 24-dehydrocholesterol reductase: Expression profile, epigenetic modification, and its knock-down effect
Gen Comp Endocrinol. 2021 Jul 26:113870. doi: 10.1016/j.ygcen.2021.113870. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe sexual size dimorphism of the Chinese tongue sole (Cynoglossus semilaevis) has greatly obstructed its sustainable development; however, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Based on C. semilaevis transcriptomic information, 24-dehydrocholesterol reductase (dhcr24) was identified in steroid biosynthesis, showing female-liver-biased expression. Dhcr24 has been reported to participate in various processes, such as cholesterol synthesis, oxidative stress response, neuroprotection, and cell survival. The present stu...
