Impact of tofogliflozin on hepatic outcomes: a systematic review
ConclusionOverall, an improvement in levels of hepatic parameters was observed in T2DM patients with concurrent liver disorders. However, a large number of clinical trials are needed to prove the efficacy of tofogliflozin on hepatic outcomes in patients with T2DM.

Investigation of tumor assessment between two PET systems using various indices: comparison between PET/CT and PET/MRI systems
This study aimed to determine the comparability of tumor-uptake indices of 18F-FDG in positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI). 2-[fluorine-18]-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG) PET/CT and PET/MRI were performed on 55 patients with confirmed primary malignancies. PET/CT preceded PET/MRI in all examinations. Accumulation of 18F-FDG in lesions and normal organs (brain, liver) was measured. Maximum and peak standardized uptake values (SUVs; SUVmax and SUVpeak, respectively), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), and total lesion glycolysis (TLG) with ...

Quadriceps muscle contraction causes medial patellofemoral ligament elongation by intermeshed fibers of vastus medialis oblique muscle
J Anat. 2023 Sep 22. doi: 10.1111/joa.13954. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe first aim of this study was to compare the medial patellofemoral length between contracted and relaxed quadriceps muscle and second to assess the importance of the intermeshed vastus medialis oblique fibers. After a priori power analysis (α = 0.05, power [1-β] = 0.95), 35 healthy males aged 18-30 were prospectively examined with a 3.0-T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner in 10-15° of knee flexion. Two axial MRI sequences (25 s each) were made with relaxed and contracted quadriceps. Two blinded, independent raters measured twice medial p...

Attention-gated U-Net networks for simultaneous axial/sagittal planes segmentation of injured spinal cords
This study proposes a new CNN-based segmentation method in which information is exchanged between two networks analyzing the scans from different planes. Our aim was to develop a robust method for automatic segmentation of the spinal cord in patients having suffered traumatic injuries. The database consisted of 106 sagittal MRI scans from 94 patients with traumatic spinal cord injuries. Our method used an innovative approach where the scans were analyzed in series under the axial and sagittal plane by two different convolutional networks. The results were compared with those of Deepseg 2D from the Spinal Cord Toolbox (SCT)...

The prevalence and prognosis of asymptomatic intracranial atherosclerosis in a community-based population: Results based on high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging
CONCLUSIONS: We found that ICAD detected using HR-MRI increases the long-term risk of a first-ever ischemic stroke in a stroke-free population, suggesting that the current primary prevention protocol of stroke awaits further optimization.PMID:37738517 | DOI:10.1111/ene.16057

Deuterium Magnetic Resonance Imaging Using Deuterated Water-Induced 2H-Tissue Labeling Allows Monitoring Cancer Treatment at Clinical Field Strength
CONCLUSIONS: Deuterium MRI at 1.5T proved feasibility to track 2H distribution throughout mouse tissues during D2O administration and revealed a higher 2H accumulation in the tumor xenografts. This research demonstrated a promising successful method for preliminary assessment of radiotherapy and chemotherapy of cancer.PMID:37732903 | DOI:10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-23-1635

Enhancing near-infrared fluorescence intensity and stability of PLGA-b-PEG micelles by introducing Gd-DOTA at the core boundary
In conclusion, we found that overall fluorescence and stability are improved by introducing Gd-DOTA at the boundary of the PLGA core and PEG shell. Improving micelle stability is crucial for further biomedical applications of micellar probes such as bimodal fluorescence and magnetic resonance imaging.PMID:37732480 | DOI:10.1002/jbm.b.35327

CSF-to-blood toxins clearance is modulated by breathing through cranio-spinal CSF oscillation
This study focuses on the cranio-spinal CSF oscillation and the factors that modulate this flow. We propose a mechanism where increased cranio-spinal CSF movements enhance CSF-to-blood metabolic waste clearance through the spinal CSF re-absorption sites. A recent study demonstrating that disturbed sleep impairs CSF-to-blood but not brain-to-CSF clearance, supports the fundamentals of our proposed mechanism. Eight healthy subjects underwent phase-contrast magnetic resonance imaging to quantify the effect of respiration on the cranio-spinal CSF oscillations. Maximal CSF volume displaced from the cranium to the spinal canal d...

Cerebellar Peduncle Injuries in Patients with Mild Traumatic Brain Injury
CONCLUSIONS: Using DTT, we demonstrated injuries to the SCP and ICP in mild TBI patients with balance problems. Our results suggest that DTT could be a useful tool for detecting injuries to the CPs that may not be identified on conventional brain magnetic resonance imaging in mild TBI patients.PMID:37735136 | DOI:10.31083/j.jin2205121
