Periodontal Tissue Regeneration by Transplantation of Autologous Adipose Tissue-Derived Multi-Lineage Progenitor Cells With Carbonate Apatite
In this study, we selected carbonate apatite as a candidate scaffold material for ADMPCs and conducted an in vitro examination of its effect on the cellular function of ADMPCs. We further performed autologous ADMPC transplantation with carbonate apatite as the scaffold material in a model of one-wall bone defects in beagles and then analyzed the effect on periodontal tissue regeneration. The findings showed that carbonate apatite did not affect the cell morphology of ADMPCs and that it promoted proliferation. Moreover, no effect on secretor factor transcription was found. The results of the in vivo analysis confirmed the s...

Diminished criminal responsibility: A multinational comparative review
This article reviews the legal frameworks of diminished criminal responsibility in eighteen civil law jurisdictions across the globe-Brazil, Chile, China, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, and Turkey. Specifically, it reports the legal standards and main features of partial responsibility, associated penalty reductions, and potential dispositions following a partial responsibility finding. It also surveys empirical data on the prevalence of diminished responsibility as compared to criminal nonresponsibility. This article, wh...

Decision tree analysis accurately predicts discharge destination after spinal cord injury rehabilitation
CONCLUSIONS: D-CART and A-CART showed comparable prediction accuracies. This suggests that, even during the early stages of rehabilitation, it is possible to predict the discharge destination.PMID:37714507 | DOI:10.1016/j.apmr.2023.08.010

Functional outcome prediction after spinal cord injury using ensemble machine learning
CONCLUSIONS: Our study revealed that functional prognostication could be achieved using machine-learning methods with features present at the time of rehabilitation admission. Goals can be set at the beginning of rehabilitation. Moreover, our model can be utilized to evaluate advanced medical treatments, such as regenerative medicine.PMID:37714506 | DOI:10.1016/j.apmr.2023.08.011

The future of green transportation: evaluating the impact of innovation in hybrid electric vehicles relating technologies on carbon dioxide emissions in Asia's top knowledge-based economies
This study attempts to address this gap in the literature by investigating the association between innovation in IHVRTs and CO2e in the top three Asian knowledge-based economies, with independent variables gross domestic product per capita (GDPPC), economic complexity (ECC), renewable energy consumption (RNEC), and financial development (FD). The model's coefficients are estimated using the augmented mean group, which considers cross-country dependencies and country-specific effects. The empirical findings indicate that IHVRTs have a substantial negative effect on CO2e. In addition, FD has a favorable relationship with CO2...

Digital PCR using a simple PDMS microfluidic chip and standard laboratory equipment
Anal Sci. 2023 Sep 14. doi: 10.1007/s44211-023-00425-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDigital PCR (dPCR) enables sensitive and precise quantification of template nucleic acid without calibration. However, dPCR is not yet in widespread use, probably due to the need for expensive specialized instruments. In this paper, we describe a dPCR system using a simple microfluidic chip and common laboratory tools. The microfluidic chip consists of two parts: a PDMS part with 24,840 × 0.25 nL microwells and a PDMS-coated flat glass plate. Human RNase P gene was adopted as the model template. Commercial products of human genomic DNA a...

Pentafluorobenzylpyridinium: new thermometer ion for characterizing the ions produced by collisional activation during tandem mass spectrometry
In this study, pentafluorobenzylpyridinium (F5-BnPy+), which has the highest dissociation energy among the reported benzylpyridinium thermometer ion, is proposed to characterize the internal energy distributions of ions activated by higher energy collisional dissociation (HCD) and ion-trap collision-induced dissociation (CID) during tandem mass spectrometry. The dissociation threshold energies of F5-BnPy+ was determined using quantum chemistry calculations at the CCSD(T)/6-311++G(d,p)//M06-2X-D3/6-311++G(d,p) level of theory, and the appearance energies for ion dissociation in HCD and ion-trap CID were estimated using Rice...

Navigating carbon emissions in G-7 economies: a quantile regression analysis of environmental-economic interplay
This study employs panel data from 1990 to 2020 for the G-7 countries (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the USA) and employs the examination of heterogeneous slope coefficients and cross-sectional dependence tests as preliminary steps before conducting cointegration analysis and second-generation unit-root tests. This study employs the method of movement quantile regression (MMQR) to analyze long-run and short-run relationships. The findings from the MMQR model indicate that economic growth and imports have a negative impact on consumption-based CO2 (CCO2) emissions, which worsens at higher quantiles. On ...
