Contribution of non-socioeconomic factors to healthy quality of life in socioeconomically deprived patients with advanced gastrointestinal cancer: Measuring attributable fraction
CONCLUSIONS: Gait, self-care ability, abdominal distension, nutritional status, weight loss and posture are important determinants of healthy quality of life in patients with advanced gastrointestinal cancer with socioeconomic deprivation, and early identification and strength management of these non-socioeconomic factors may neutralize the negative impact of socioeconomic factors on the quality of life.IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: This study provides new ideas and intervention entry points for global nurses in practice innovations to improve the quality of life of socioeconomically deprived patients with advanced gastrointe...

Malignancy-associated membranous nephropathy: focus on diagnosis and treatment
CONCLUSIONS: Tumor screening is important in patients with membranous nephropathy, especially in elderly patients and patients with negative phospholipase A2 receptor or non-IgG4 predominant deposition. Remission of membranous nephropathy can be observed following remission of cancer in some cases. Immunosuppressive therapy may be considered if membranous nephropathy does not remit after remission of cancer.PMID:37713160 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01751-4

Midday Napping, Nighttime Sleep, and Mortality: Prospective Cohort Evidence in China
CONCLUSION: Long midday napping and inappropriate nighttime sleep were independently associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality in middle-aged and older Chinese populations. Biological studies are needed to validate our findings and clarify the mechanisms underlying this association.PMID:37711082 | DOI:10.3967/bes2023.073

Diminished criminal responsibility: A multinational comparative review
This article reviews the legal frameworks of diminished criminal responsibility in eighteen civil law jurisdictions across the globe-Brazil, Chile, China, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, and Turkey. Specifically, it reports the legal standards and main features of partial responsibility, associated penalty reductions, and potential dispositions following a partial responsibility finding. It also surveys empirical data on the prevalence of diminished responsibility as compared to criminal nonresponsibility. This article, wh...

Early Detection of Dementia using Risk Classification in MCI: Outcomes of Shanghai Mild Cognitive Impairment Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: A simple risk classification using the rt. HV and neuropsychological test scores, including those from the ADAS-Cog-C and PACC, could be a practicable and efficient approach to identifying individuals at risk of all-cause dementia.PMID:37711110 | DOI:10.2174/1567205020666230914161034

Corilagin alleviates LPS-induced sepsis through inhibiting pyroptosis via targeting TIR domain of MyD88 and binding CARD of ASC in macrophages
Biochem Pharmacol. 2023 Sep 13:115806. doi: 10.1016/j.bcp.2023.115806. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSepsis is a dysregulated systemic inflammatory response caused by infection that leads to multiple organ injury and high mortality without effective treatment. Corilagin, a natural polyphenol extracted from traditional Chinese herbs, exhibits strong anti-inflammatory properties. However, the role for Corilagin in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced sepsis and the molecular mechanisms underlying this process have not been completely explored. Here we determine the effect of Corilagin on LPS-treated mice and use a screening appr...

Effect of dominant vertebral artery angle on basilar artery curvature and plaque
CONCLUSIONS: The dominant VA angle was independently associated with BA plaque, and a dominant VA angle greater than 80° may be a marker for a high risk of posterior circulation atherosclerosis.PMID:37711832 | PMC:PMC10498226 | DOI:10.21037/qims-23-74

2023 Chinese guideline for lipid management
Front Pharmacol. 2023 Aug 29;14:1190934. doi: 10.3389/fphar.2023.1190934. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTAtherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is the leading cause of death among urban and rural residents in China, and elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is a risk factor for ASCVD. Considering the increasing burden of ASCVD, lipid management is of the utmost importance. In recent years, research on blood lipids has made breakthroughs around the world, hence a revision of Chinese guideline for lipid management is imperative, especially since the target lipid levels in the general population vary in respe...

Luteolin as a potential hepatoprotective drug: Molecular mechanisms and treatment strategies
This article summarizes the pharmacological effects, pharmacokinetic characteristics, and toxicity of luteolin against liver diseases, and provides prospect. The results indicate that luteolin improves liver lesions through various mechanisms, including inhibiting inflammatory factors, reducing oxidative stress, regulating lipid balance, slowing down excessive aggregation of extracellular matrix, inducing apoptosis and autophagy of liver cancer cells. Pharmacokinetics research manifested that due to metabolic effects, the bioavailability of luteolin is relatively low. It is worth noting that appropriate modification, new d...

Naotaifang formula attenuates OGD/R-induced inflammation and ferroptosis by regulating microglial M1/M2 polarization through BMP6/SMADs signaling pathway
CONCLUSION: Microglial M1/M2 polarization plays a pivotal role in inflammation and ferroptosis during OGD/R. The BMP6/SMADs signaling pathway is a potential therapeutical target of inflammation and ferroptosis induced by the transformation of microglia. Moreover, NTF could alleviate inflammation and ferroptosis through the BMP6/SMADs signaling pathway in OGD/R-injured microglia.PMID:37713988 | DOI:10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115465

Estimating the geographical patterns and health risks associated with PM < sub > 2.5 < /sub > -bound heavy metals to guide PM < sub > 2.5 < /sub > control targets in China based on machine-learning algorithms
In this study, we compiled a substantial dataset consisting of the concentrations of eight PBHMs, including As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn, across different cities in China. To improve prediction accuracy, we enhanced the traditional land-use regression (LUR) model by incorporating emission source-related variables and employing the best-fitted machine-learning algorithm, which was applied to predict PBHM concentrations, analyze geographical patterns and assess the health risks associated with metals under different PM2.5 control targets. Our model exhibited excellent performance in predicting the concentrations of PBHM...

Clinical Characterization and Molecular Analysis of Fourteen Chinese Patients with Factor V Deficiency
CONCLUSION: This is the largest genetic analysis of a single cohort of FV deficiency in Chinese. The study demonstrated that FV levels tended to be correlated with the probability of hemorrhage. The identification of a large number of unique FV-deficient pedigrees highlighted the screening for mutations in F5.PMID:37714176 | DOI:10.1055/a-2146-9540
