Residing near allergenic trees can increase risk of allergies later in life: LISA Leipzig study.
CONCLUSION: We observed that early life residence in places with many trees, and allergenic trees specifically, may increase the prevalence of allergic rhinitis later in life. This association and its modification by air pollution should be pursued in further studies. PMID: 32853665 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Nasal biomarkers predict severity of pollen-specific allergy symptoms
(Helmholtz Zentrum M ü nchen - German Research Center for Environmental Health) It is not only people with allergies, but also a subgroup of people without one that suffer in spring and have nasal problems from contact with pollen. A new study shows that biomarkers in the nose can predict the severity of the symptoms that will occur in spring even before the pollen season starts.

Special aspects of military medical assessment in the field of dermatology.
Authors: Sadowski-Röhm C Abstract The German Armed Forces evaluate the required health of candidates and military personnel by using specific examination standards. In particular cases, the examining physician can request consultation with a medical specialist. The Armed Forces dermatologists support the assessment of the skin, mucous membranes, neoplasms of the skin, and allergies. The following is a short review of the basic essential military dermatologic decision criteria including the currently valid regulations in order to make it easier to take into consideration the reports from pretreating civilian physic...

Trends and current spectrum of contact allergy in Central Europe: Results of the Information Network of Departments of Dermatology (IVDK), 2007 - 2018.
CONCLUSIONS: Decreases in sensitisation prevalence likely reflect reduced exposure, with some lag, as for hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde. If no (sufficient) decrease can be observed despite interventions, such as for nickel and chromium, affected subgroups should be identified and their causative exposures explored. Finally, increases like observed with propolis certainly warrant targeted investigation of exposures driving sensitisation, and possibly intervention. Prognostic factors and risk factors for development and recurrence of sinonasal papillomas: potential role of different HPV subtypes
ConclusionsYoung age at initial diagnosis and incomplete tumor resection are risk factors for recurrence of sinonasal papillomas. Our data suggest that HPV infection supports development and/or perpetuation of sinonasal papillomas. Additionally, sinonasal papillomas seem to display a unique subset of HPV genotypes, including genotypes that have not often been described before.

Serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) in COPD: analysis of the German COSYCONET cohort
Conclusion: Higher total IgE was associated with exacerbations in men, but not in women with COPD. A history of allergies or presence of allergen-specific IgE were correlated with better lung function and less emphysema, independent of the gender. These data suggest a role for total IgE in COPD which is not explained by allergic sensitisations to common aeroallergens.

Contact allergies to dental materials
This study included 86 subjects (83.7% women and 16.3% men) with oral symptoms of a contact allergy. The average age was 63 years (24–86). The most common allergies were to metals, of which nickel and cobalt were th e most common allergens. Furthermore, many allergies were indicated to ingredients of cosmetics and composites. Allergies to components in methacrylate-containing denture resins came in at rank 5. 52.4% of the patients showed mucosal changes. Contact stomatitis (54.5%) and an oral lichenoid les ion (20.5%) were most frequently diagnosed. 86% of the patients reported subjective complaints. Pain and burning sen...

Coadministration of Sublingual Immunotherapy Tablets and Management of Potential Adverse Effects: Austrian, German, and Swiss Expert Recommendations.
Abstract Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) is currently available as liquid drops and tablets for treatment of allergic patients. Because several allergens are available and many patients are polyallergic, it is possible to treat patients with multiple clinically relevant allergies by >1 SLIT product. Austrian, German, and Swiss medical experts discussed the available data on allergen uptake at the oral mucosa and recently published data on coadministration of a grass and a ragweed tablet. The experts agreed on a schedule considering data from a North American trial on sequential administration of 2 SLIT-tablets ...

Guideline on diagnostic procedures for suspected hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics
AbstractThis guideline on diagnostic procedures for suspected beta-lactam antibiotic (BLA) hypersensitivity was written by the German and Austrian professional associations for allergology, and the Paul-Ehrlich Society for Chemotherapy in a  consensus procedure according to the criteria of the German Association of Scientific Medical Societies. BLA such as penicillins and cephalosporins represent the drug group that most frequently triggers drug allergies. However, the frequency of reports of suspected allergy in patient histories cle arly exceeds the number of confirmed cases. The large number of suspected BLA allergies ...

Breathing: Ambient Air Pollution and Health - Part III.
Authors: Schulz H, Karrasch S, Bölke G, Cyrys J, Hornberg C, Pickford R, Schneider A, Witt C, Hoffmann B Abstract The third part of the DGP statement introduces the current body of knowledge on less studied health outcomes associated with exposure to ambient air pollution: the negative impact on metabolism leading to impaired glucose tolerance and diabetes as well as contribution to the development of neurodegenerative disorders and delayed cognitive function in children. Furthermore, prenatal exposure and adverse effects on mother and child are addressed. Finally, the currently discussed biological mechanisms und...

The Role of Early Life Food Sensitization in Adolescent Lung Function: Results from 2 Birth Cohort Studies
ConclusionsThis study showed that food sensitization at 6 and 12 months was associated with reduced FEV1 in adolescence. Our finding that this link is not completely mediated by either subsequent asthma or aeroallergen sensitization is novel and suggests that early food sensitization itself can be used to identify high-risk groups for poor lung health.
