Natural products and their mechanisms in potential photoprotection of the skin
J Biosci. 2022;47:77.ABSTRACTExposure to solar radiation can generate different types of damage to the skin, including skin cancer. Depending on the duration of the exposure, sun damage can present as sunburn, photoaging, and photoimmunosuppression, among other effects. Using natural products on the skin may aid in preventing the damage caused by exposure to solar radiation, in addition to reducing the adverse side effects of common sunscreens, such as irritation, allergies, phototoxic reactions, photosensitivity, and generation of reactive oxygen species. On the other hand, the UV light absorption capacity of natural prod...

Anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic potential of dietary flavonoids: A review
Biomed Pharmacother. 2022 Dec;156:113945. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2022.113945. Epub 2022 Oct 31.ABSTRACTChronic inflammation plays an imperative role in the onset and progression of chronic diseases including diabetes, hypertension, cancer, allergies, and asthma. Diet can modulate different stages of inflammation since it is a rich source of antioxidants and bioactive compounds. Flavonoids are bioactive compounds abundantly found in various food groups such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, cereals, and beverages. Recent work on flavonoids has unveiled their potential to regulate or inhibit inflammation. This is attributed to the...

Biological contaminants in indoor environments of educational institutions
AbstractBiological contaminants mainly consisting of living or dead microorganisms and compounds or fragments of plants and animal origin are gaining widespread research interest in recent years due to their ubiquitous presence along with their health effects on humans. Students spend a significant time of the day in educational institutions, which increases the cumulative health risk over the years. This review discusses the major biological contaminants, sampling strategies, health effects, and the factors affecting their prevalence in educational institutions. Fungi and bacteria were the most reported bio-contaminants f...

Allergic rhinitis associated with nasal polyps and rhinosinusitis - histopathological and immunohistochemical study
Rom J Morphol Embryol. 2022 Apr-Jun;63(2):413-419. doi: 10.47162/RJME.63.2.12.ABSTRACTCurrently, allergic rhinitis (AR) is the most common allergic disease worldwide. AR is defined as immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated chronic inflammatory disease of the upper airways. It characterizes by symptoms like nasal obstruction, rhinorrhea, nasal itching, and sneezing. The immune system and genetic susceptibility in the interaction with the environment lead to the development of AR. Many cytokines, chemokines and cells maintain allergic inflammation. Studies show that 10% to 30% of the adult population are affected, and that prevalen...
