Effect of an intensified multifactorial intervention on cardiovascular outcomes and mortality in type 2 diabetes (J-DOIT3): an open-label, randomised controlled trial
This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT00300976. Findings Between June 16, 2006, and March 31, 2009, 2542 eligible patients were randomly assigned to intensive therapy or conventional therapy (1271 in each group) and followed up for a median of 8·5 years (IQR 7·3–9·0). Two patients in the intensive therapy group were found to be ineligible after randomisation and were excluded from the analyses. During the intervention period, mean HbA1c, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and LDL cholesterol concentrations were significantly lower in the intensive therapy group than in the convent...

Incidence of myocardial infarction and stroke in acromegaly patients: results from the German Acromegaly Registry
ConclusionsFor acromegaly patients being treated at specialized centres, the incidence of MIs and strokes does not seem to differ from the general population. Certainty regarding such statements requires large, prospective studies however.

Dietary intake habits and the prevalence of nocturia in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
ConclusionsWe found an inverse association between vegetable intake habit and nocturia in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. No data regarding the association between dietary intake and nocturia is available among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study is the first to show a significant inverse association between dietary vegetable intake and nocturia and severe nocturia among Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Nutrition therapy for diabetes: Implications for decreasing cardiovascular complications
The diabetic state confers an increased risk for premature cardiovascular diseases (CVD) including myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke. Furthermore CVD is the leading cause of mortality. Potential mechanisms mediating the increased risk include dyslipidemia, hypertension, advanced glycation, a pro-coagulant diathesis, increased oxidative stress anda pro- inflammatory state.1,2

Association of glucagon ‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonist use and rates of acute myocardial infarction, stroke and overall mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in a large integrated health system
Conclusions GLP‐1RA exposure was found to be associated with a reduction in the risk of cardiovascular events observed and overall mortality among patients with T2D with and without established CVD, after adjusting for potential confounders.

30 YEARS OF THE MINERALOCORTICOID RECEPTOR: The role of the mineralocorticoid receptor in the vasculature
Since the mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) was cloned 30 years ago, it has become clear that MR is expressed in extra-renal tissues, including the cardiovascular system, where it is expressed in all cells of the vasculature. Understanding the role of MR in the vasculature has been of particular interest as clinical trials show that MR antagonism improves cardiovascular outcomes out of proportion to changes in blood pressure. The last 30 years of research have demonstrated that MR is a functional hormone-activated transcription factor in vascular smooth muscle cells and endothelial cells. This review summarizes advances in o...

Prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Complications among Palestinians with T2DM
Conclusions The present cross-sectional study shows poor glycemic control in Palestine, while blood pressure and lipids are less poorly controlled. The study emphasizes the need to optimize the glucose-lowering treatment and to implement diabetes care program that could face the challenge of high uncontrolled diabetes as well as complications of diabetes.

Sex Differences in Cardiovascular Risk Profiles of Ischemic Stroke Patients with Diabetes in the Greater Cincinnati/ Northern Kentucky Stroke Study
ConclusionsWomen with DM had strokes at a younger age, whereas no such age difference existed in men. As opposed to men, women with DM were also more likely to have CAD compared with those without DM, suggesting a sex difference in the association between DM and vascular disease. These findings may suggest a need for more aggressive risk factor management in diabetic women.

Association Between Diabetes and 1-Year Adverse Clinical Outcomes in a Multinational Cohort of Ambulatory Patients With Chronic Heart Failure: Results From the ESC-HFA Heart Failure Long-Term Registry
CONCLUSIONS The presence of diabetes markedly increases the risk of 1-year adverse clinical outcomes in outpatients with CHF independent of multiple common risk factors. More effective and personalized treatment for diabetes should be considered in this particularly high-risk patient population.
