IJERPH, Vol. 17, Pages 5360: Increased One-Year Recurrent Ischemic Stroke after First-Ever Ischemic Stroke in Males with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
Conclusion: Patients with BPH who had these risk factors had an increased risk of one-year recurrent IS. The modification of risk factors may prevent recurrent IS.

A Novel Index in the Prediction of Pneumonia Following Acute Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSIONS: This study presents factors that show a significant association with the occurrence of pneumonia in patients with acute ischemic stroke. The calculated PNEUMOINDEX consists of data obtained at admission, namely NYHA III and IV heart failure, COPD, generalized atherosclerosis, NIHHS score on admission, and CRP/Hgb ratio, and shows high prediction accuracy in predicting hospital-acquired pneumonia in ischemic stroke patients.PMID:36430028 | DOI:10.3390/ijerph192215306

Cause of Death and Predictors of All-Cause Mortality in Anticoagulated Patients With Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation: Data From ROCKET AF Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology
Conclusions
In a large population of patients anticoagulated for nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, 7 in 10 deaths were cardiovascular, whereas <1 in 10 deaths were caused by nonhemorrhagic stroke or systemic embolism. Optimal prevention and treatment of heart failure, renal impairment, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and diabetes may improve survival.

Interaction between blood lead level and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) on risk of heart attack or stroke: USA NHANES, 2013–2014
ConclusionsThe low lead level today means more effect of COPD on the occurrence of heart attack and stroke. More studies required to understand the pathways of the association of COPD, CVD and lead due to their shared risk factors.

In this study, we investigated the effect and mechanism of Roflu against ischemic stroke using in vitro oxygen-glucose deprivation reperfusion (OGD/R) and in vivo rat middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) models. COVID-19–Associated Ischemic Stroke in a Patient on Therapeutic Anticoagulation
Conclusion:
Ischemic stroke in anticoagulated patients with COVID-19 has been previously reported. Such cases emphasize the severity of the coronavirus virus associated hypercoagulable state. A majority of reported cases have occurred in patients continuing their ambulatory therapy. Overall, such cases are likely underreported. There are current trials comparing therapeutic versus prophylactic dose anticoagulation in patients with COVID-19. There are no studies specifically addressing anticoagulation agent failure in these patients. Further research is required this area to determine the optimal therapy for patients with COVID-19.

Social Gradients in Myocardial Infarction and Stroke Diagnoses in Emergency Medicine.
CONCLUSION: This study shows that the case-activity rate of the emergency medical services is significantly higher in socially disadvantaged neighborhoods, both with respect to total numbers and with respect to individual diseases. It demonstrates a problem affecting society as a whole, which should be taken into account in the organization of medical rescue services.
